Goshen Coffee's Black Dog Espresso is a loyal companion in the cup—reliably bold, comfortingly familiar, and built to perform whether you're pulling straight shots or building milk drinks. Roasted darker to bring forward rich chocolate tones and caramelized sweetness, this blend is designed for espresso machines that demand consistency and forgiveness. It's the kind of coffee that rewards both the early-morning autopilot routine and the deliberate midday ritual.
Tasting Notes
Black Dog opens with deep dark chocolate and molasses, segueing into subtle notes of toasted walnut and brown sugar. The body is full and creamy, with low acidity that makes it exceptionally smooth in straight espresso or cappuccinos. The finish lingers with a hint of bittersweet cocoa and gentle spice—never harsh, never thin. This is espresso that plays well with milk, holding its character through foam without disappearing, but it's equally satisfying as a bold, unapologetic solo shot.
Brew Methods
Black Dog shines brightest as espresso—whether traditional 1:2 ratio shots or longer, milk-friendly pulls around 1:2.5. The darker roast profile means it's forgiving with grind adjustments and extracts cleanly across a range of temperatures (198–203°F). It also performs admirably in moka pots and AeroPresses when you're after that full-bodied, concentrated coffee experience. Pour over isn't its natural habitat, but adventurous brewers can coax interesting results with coarser grinds and lower water temps.
