ECM Casa V Espresso Machine
Compact, practical, powerful. The body of the ECM Casa V with its rounded edges is crafted by hand. With a width of 8″ it is extremely narrow and therefore suitable also for small kitchens. The Casa V is a classic single-boiler machine gleaming with polished stainless steel.

The Casa V from ECM Germany is our most eagerly anticipated Italian-built machine under $1,000. We see it combining the best of German design and Italian craftsmanship. This position has been held by the Rancilio Silvia for the last decade, but we love the cleanliness and build quality of ECM, and their pedigree as one of the longest established makers of top-of-the-line equipment.
What features have us excited about the Casa V? Our technicians love the heavy duty construction, both inside and out. There are no plastic switches or bezels to crack, and it’s clear that this machine has been designed to make maintenance straight-forward for years to come. Casa has a fully polished stainless steel case and a large .4 liter brass boiler. This boiler paired with a powerful 1200 watt heating element yields a 5-8 minute warm-up time, which is faster than most machines in this class. The boiler delivers great steam power and solid temperature consistency in the shot. The ECM Casa V also includes a beautiful ergonomic and chrome plated commercial 58mm portafilter and a fully articulating steam wand. Because it rotates on a ball hinge, you can accommodate multiple pitcher sizes and angle the steam tip right where you want it. The brew pressure is externally adjustable, and that pressure is displayed during your shot on the custom gauge. Once the steam button is pressed, ample steam power is available in about a minute.
Aesthetically, ECM has updated the profile of the Casa and added a distinctive gauge that reminds us of Italian race cars.
If you’re looking for a beautiful workhorse that can produce excellent espresso, steam occasional milk drinks quickly, and will be maintainable for the long haul, the Casa is ready to impress. If you’d like to entertain or make multiple drinks back to back, we recommend you also take a look at our heat exchanger and dual boiler espresso machine models.

If you're and espresso purist who likes the occasional cappuccino on the weekend a single boiler is the machine for you. Single boilers take less time to heat than their larger dual boiler and heat exchanger relatives. They also have smaller footprints, and offer a more espresso focused experience.
The reservoir is the water tank an espresso machine pulls water from to fill its boilers. Having a reservoir means a machine can be more portable and work in homes where plumbing isn't an option.
Saturated Group Head
Saturated group heads are essentially surrounded by an extended section of the boiler. This means they warm up much faster than E61 group heads and hold a specified temperature more precisely.
These machines are built from the ground up with the home barista in mind. They span a wide range of needs but what they all have in common is a focus on creating a great user experience in a footprint that will fit on your counter, and look great there too.
Vibratory pumps are the most common design in compact espresso machines, because they’re durable, compact and economical. Although they’re a bit louder than rotary pumps, when adjusted to proper 9 bar brew pressure vibratory pumps offer comparable espresso quality.
