LUCCADirect Plumb A53 Espresso Machine by La Spaziale
$2,195.00 – $2,790.00
Designed and built specifically for Clive by La Spaziale, the direct plumb LUCCA A53 is an elegant and distinctive commercial dual boiler espresso machine.
In The Press
In 1969, La Spaziale of Bologna, Italy, created a patented espresso system that warmed water with steam rather than boiling. The brand continues to innovate. Its new compact machine is made exclusively for Clive Coffee in Portland, Ore., and functions like a commercial model, with stainless-steel filters and a dual-boiler system.
Nothing beats a great shot of espresso or a sweet and delicious latte from the comfort of your own home, so we set out to find the perfect home espresso setup. After testing and experiment with a wide variety of expensive and inexpensive espresso machines, grinders, and accessories, we were head over heels about the LUCCA A53.
The La Spaziale S1 line is one of the most popular and well proven dual boilers on the market, and has long been a team favorite here at Clive. Our customers have appreciated the solid build quality and generous steam power. Our founder Mark traveled to Bologna to work with La Spaziale to develop a few customizations to the S1, specifically designed for our customers. The LUCCA A53 is the result of this collaboration, and the direct plumb version is our first recommendation for small businesses or homes that want commercial durability with an easy interface and all the steam power they could want. This beauty can keep up with back to back drinks without missing a beat!
The LUCCA mark shines through the control panel’s modern matte finish and the matching matte drip tray contrasts with the gloss black La Spaziale badge. The back of the machine is all stainless, which makes a fantastic contrast to the wood side panels that we make here in Portland. If you’d like a beautiful set of wood panels, they need to be installed by our technicians in Portland.
There are a number of the reasons for this machine’s reputation and continued popularity. The modern saturated style brew boiler paired with programmable preinfusion and shot volume makes great espresso easy and consistent, whether you’re making one drink at a time or are serving a line of customers. The 2.5 liter steam boiler brings huge power. Deeper 53mm portafilters (18g in the double spout and up to 22g in the included bottomless) hold as much coffee as their 58mm alternatives, but the thicker coffee puck is more forgiving of channeling.
True commercial DNA means maximum durability and easy access to parts for service. Simple and intuitive design makes it less intimidating and easier to learn than some machines. You can pull shots manually, or program the shot volume. The commercial rotary vane pump sounds smooth, quiet and robust.
The machine has tremendous steam power and espresso consistency, and can be used on any kitchen outlet. If you’re looking for a beautiful, durable and powerful espresso machine, it’s hard to do better than the direct plumb LUCCA A53.

Direct plumbing means you can hook a machine directly a water line and never have to worry about refilling your reservoir again. These machines also allow you to connect the drip tray to a drain so you don't have to make that tightrope walk to the sink.
Saturated Group Head
Saturated group heads are essentially surrounded by an extended section of the boiler. This means they warm up much faster than E61 group heads and hold a specified temperature more precisely.
These machines are built from the ground up with the home barista in mind. They span a wide range of needs but what they all have in common is a focus on creating a great user experience in a footprint that will fit on your counter, and look great there too.
Looking to pull some espresso at a wedding or serve cappuccinos to all your holiday party guests? Want to upgrade your office coffee setup? You’ll need a durable machine that can keep up with the crowds. Any of these espresso machines can bring the heat and look beautiful doing it.
Dedicated temperature controlled boilers for brewing and steaming means both functions can happen simultaneously, with the additional advantage of fine tunability. Sour and bitter espresso flavors can be minimized by raising or lowering brew temperature, resulting in a smoother shot. Adjusting the temperature of the steam boiler can increase or decrease the amount of steam power to suit different drink size milk drinks.
The rotary vane pump offers whisper quiet performance just like your favorite cafe’s machine. This super robust design also allows plumb-ability.
Digital Temperature Control
Closed loop temperature control is a very simple and reliable means of maintaining boiler temperature. Brew temperature and steam boiler temperature can be adjusted degree by degree.
Volumetric programming gives the option of precisely dispensing a desired amount of liquid with the push of a button. For example, the double shot button can be programmed for a double shot, and the single shot button can be programmed for a 1oz rinsing flush.
