ECM/BaratzaSpecial Edition ECM Classika PID + Baratza Vario Home Barista Package
The ideal package for espresso purists looking to save counter space and get a premium home espresso experience. Between the built in PID and shot timer on the Classika and the dead simple adjustability and nearly nonexistent grind retention on the Vario you’ve got yourself a winning setup.
SPECIAL EDITION CLASSIKA PID by ECM
Espresso purists and space constrained cappuccino lovers: rejoice! We worked with our friends at ECM to develop a custom and exclusive version of their time-tested Classika espresso machine. We’re thrilled with the result. The Special Edition ECM Classika PID from Clive Coffee packs premium features and build quality, to create cafe performance in one of the most compact footprints on the market.
The timeless lever-actuated e61 group head, mirror polished (or black, or white) panels and upgraded steaming joystick are gorgeous, but this is so much more than a pretty face. Classika’s .75 liter stainless steel boiler is the same size as the brew boiler in the flagship ECM Synchronika, meaning nothing will be sacrificed in the cup. ECM’s patented e61 group head incorporates stainless steel internals and 9 pounds of chromed brass brings amazing temperature stability and mechanical pre-infusion to every shot. The cutting edge PID allows fine tuning of espresso flavors by individual degree temperature adjustment, and the built-in shot timer helps to dial in the grinder and improve shot consistency. When you find your favorite flavors, the machine holds your setting to within 1 degree.
The updated joystick has spring-like action which means steam power is instant on and off, so you can steam your milk to the perfect temperature every time. Flip the satisfying rocker switch to steam mode, and in one minute you’ll have ample steam power for your favorite milk drink. The stainless steel steam wand swivels fully on a ball joint, so you can accommodate multiple pitcher sizes and point the steam right where you want it.
The spotless internal layout and German engineering make it clear that the Classika is built to be long-lasting, with routine maintenance made as straightforward as possible. If it’s all about the flavor in the cup, and you don’t make a lot of back-to-back milk drinks, the Clive Classika is ready to take your coffee journey to new heights.
We often hear from people who want a single grinder they can use with their espresso machine as well as for drip, french press, and anything in between. The Baratza Vario fits this bill perfectly. With its dual cam stepped adjustment system you can easily and repeatedly switch between a wide range of grind sizes, with a total of 230 individual settings. While the Vario is a commercial grinder with 54mm ceramic flat burrs with a throughput of 1.9 grams per second its sleek contemporary design, small foot print, and adjustability for any style of coffee also make it perfect as a home grinder. Baratza teamed up with Mahlkönig to bring you these high-quality burrs that stay sharper longer. Ceramic burrs last up to 2 times longer than steel burrs and also transfer less heat to the coffee, making for clearer flavor in the cup.
As if the Vario’s wide grind range wasn’t enough, with its 3 programmable timed dose settings you can easily the same weight in coffee without having to break out a scale. Once you have your grind dialed in simply note how long it takes to grind your desired dose (this is displayed on the grinder) and program one of the buttons for this time for easy repeatability. To make espresso pulling even easier the Vario is equipped with a PortaHolder that is universally adjustable for any portafilter which allows for hands-free operation.
Driving the Vario is a powerful DE motor that turns slowly, resulting in cool, quiet operation, and permits expanded grinding time for when you need to make a big batch of drip or are hosting a party and want to show off your barista skills.

The reservoir is the water tank an espresso machine pulls water from to fill its boilers. Having a reservoir means a machine can be more portable and work in homes where plumbing isn't an option.
E61 Group Head
The E61 group head was designed in 1961; the fact that it's still around speaks to its reliability. This style of group head allows for mechanical pre-infusion while also exuding romantic espresso machine style.
These machines are built from the ground up with the home barista in mind. They span a wide range of needs but what they all have in common is a focus on creating a great user experience in a footprint that will fit on your counter, and look great there too.
Vibratory pumps are the most common design in compact espresso machines, because they’re durable, compact and economical. Although they’re a bit louder than rotary pumps, when adjusted to proper 9 bar brew pressure vibratory pumps offer comparable espresso quality.
PID Temperature Control
PIDs allow the most precise temperature adjustment and control of boilers by continuously calculating the amount of power needed to maintain the target temperature. They also allow more detailed information to be displayed to the user than digital temperature controlled systems.
Shot timers measure the brew time from the time the pump is activated. This information is extremely helpful for dialing in an espresso grinder to the ideal 25 second 1.5oz shot, and maintaining consistency.
Joystick Operated Steam/Hot Water
Joystick operated valves make steam and hot water dispensing instant on and off. Simply flick the steam valve when the milk has reached the optimum temperature, and the valve will spring closed. These non compression valves are a very durable and easy to maintain design that has been used in commercial equipment for decades.
