A Coffee Lover's Guide to Pandemic Preparedness

As with much of the Pacific Northwest, Clive employees started working from home today. Unlike most workers, our home coffee set-ups are better than most cafes, so our lattes this morning are just as good as anything we can find in Portland. And, as we started thinking about the impact this virus is having around workplaces in the US, we decided to put together a guide to help home-bound employees stay caffeinated.
  1. Get the right tools. We don’t want this to be promotional at all, but getting started with the right tools at home will not only make your coffee better, but will save you money in the long run. If you buy them from Clive, great. If not, no problem. However, we are believers that there is a lot of waste that goes with cafe coffee, along with sometimes poor results. So, invest in your preferred beverage (drip, latte, cappuccino), and plan out your new morning routine.
  2. Don’t be afraid. Most of our days at Clive are spent teaching people how to make great espresso at home. We are 95% educators and 5% web developers. We consistently hear from these customers that it is way easier than they thought it would be, and with the support from our staff are making excellent espresso right out of the box. Now that you are working from home, use your foregone commute time to refine your drink skills. Your latte game will be A+ by the time we go back to work.
  3. Lockdown your coffee supply. Despite being in the coffee mecca of the US, we often find ourselves ordering coffee from all over the United States. In the last 2 years, it has gotten wildly easier to get coffee from great roasters like Onyx, Verve, Olympia, and Dillanos delivered right to your door. Store it well to cut down on shipping costs and you will never have to settle for second rate beans again.
  4. Invite a friend. We hear so often that one of the main reasons folks stick with traditional cafes (despite the misconception that the coffee is better), is that they enjoy the social aspect. But, why spend your days as a cloistered victim of a global pandemic alone. Invite your cleanest friend over and make them coffee, too. Pop open your laptops and stop reading the news.

We sincerely hope that you and your family stay healthy through this crazy period. We know we can’t save the world. However, we can help make the days seem a bit more normal.

Love,

Your friends at Clive
