I live in the high

I live in the high desert of Utah where hard water is the norm. Though I have a whole house filter, it does nothing to soften our water. We tried using the Oscar Water Pouch from Clive but it only brought the PPM's down from 150 to about 120. Clive's tech support recommended the BWT and it did the trick. My water is now consistently around 70 PPM. If you find yourself grappling with excessively hard water, this should be your go-to solution.

This product seems to work

This product seems to work relatively well. It may take a few days to fully activate and to fix any hardness issues. To see if it’s working or not, I’ve been using the API KH (carbonate hardness) test since the general hardness test strips haven’t shown a measurable difference, at least for me. The taste is excellent compared to other filters and it’s lasted a couple months and still ticking. I’ll try this one again for sure.

*Latest Update: It appears the BWT Water Softening Pouch Size "M" has made a 1 grain per gallon reduction in hardness. Water in the espresso machine tank measured 3 grains per gallon & thats with the pouch installed with the correct installation procedure. Draining hot water from the water wand. The chemical hardness test measured a total of 2 grains per gallon of hardness. So it must be working! Don't normally recommend this type of test but this is on a new machine so it hasn't had much time to develop scale, imo.

BWT Water Softening Pouch Size "M" seems like it makes a difference for hard water. *Tested in tank water w a TDS meter (16oz of the BWT in tank water) & it read 61ppm. 19 ppm improvement using this product. * Carbonate hardness chemical test around 3 grains per gallon so below the 70ppm chart. Seems like 4 grains is the max limit for most espresso machines. * Seems like descaling is something everyone should be doing unless your using distilled or RO water. * Won't know how good this product is until the machine is torn apart & or inspected. Best to test & test & not just rely on a product to solve your problems.

Well Water

Our well water is like liquid snow and is crystal clear. However, it's slightly hard (between 120 and 250ppm) and needs to be softened. BWT pouch seemed to be a pretty hassle free solution, drop in the tank and we fill with our filtered water. Overnight the pouch brings the hardness to between 50 and 120ppm. For us this is a great solution to get you going. Getting softened water from the sink will be the ideal ie. plumbed in softening system.
