Style 7 Wood Bottomless Portafilter

Prefect portafilter, love the wood and finish. Planning to replace other portafilters to same wood and style.

Bought this 2-3 years ago as i wanted to try bottomless portafilter with my profitec 700. I got the walnut finish and it does not match the walnut panel nor knob i got on espresso machine. In fact, the finish started flaking off pretty soon after I started using it. Also- it generally needs quite a bit more grounds than the typical 18-20g but it will let you know immediately that you are not dialed in. Once i spent the money on it - figured i was stuck with it so I keep using it as the marred finish does not impact the use of the portafilter.

Good quality. Looks nice. Came with the walnut upgrade with my ECM Classika. Unfortunately, it does not work well with high extraction baskets due to the design (the inner wall of the portafilter slopes contiguously into the handle). My primary basket is a Sworksdesign 18-20g. It fits fine in the portafilter, but with the holes going to the edge of the basket, the extraction frequently follows the slope due to gravity and drips down the handle.

It works, however the big lump of metal on the end of the handle pushes the center of mass towards the handle so it won't sit in my tamping support without falling out.

Just wondering, why wouldn't one design a portafilter with a handle that allowed it to sit flat (filter upright) on a scale or countertop rather than leaning over?

The portafilter does what it is supposed to do. It comes with a triple shot basket which I had to ask because it doesn’t tell you in the details. It was good weight like all E61 portafilter but the low rating is only for physical appearances. It came with a nick or blemish in the metal basket holder and the wood in the handle does not look finished. It looks like someone chopped off the end of a dowel rod to glue the end piece on without sanding the edges so it is not flush with the metal end cap. Looks very cheaply done for such an expensive portafilter. I would not recommend spending the money for this portafilter.

Looks beautiful and functions super well. This was the final piece to complete my walnut LUCA M58 setup, and I’m glad I bought it. Unfortunately, the center of the wood handle has knots that created small cavities, so that when I grip the handle it cuts into my hand a bit. Doesn’t affect use, and it hasn’t led to any actual cuts in my skin, just a bit annoying when I use it (about three times a day).

Great feel and perfectly balanced. Beautiful, sleek and functional. Paired it with an 18 gram VST precision basket, on my Rocket evoluzione R.

This is a fantastic upgrade to the standard ECM portafilter as the wood gives such a better feel while the weight matches the originals. Highly recommend this for an addition to any machine.

Beautiful - the standard portafilter is sufficient, but this one is simply beautiful, to me it enhances the overall look of the machine.

Timeless aesthetics and a large basket make for an excellent portalfilter, now I just need more walnut accessories...

This protafilter looks nice and is a great addition to my home setup, but it has a few flaws. Flaw 1: Quality - I was expecting actual wood, but to my surprise the handle is a heat resistant plastic wrap, designed to resemble wood. Flaw 2: Balance- while weighing grounds, the portafilter doesn’t rest flat on the scale, but teeters to one side. It was a bit of a let down, but something I’ve learned to be okay with over time.

Clive coffee requires this in order to submit a review. This is a good portafilter.

I got this with my new ECM Synchronika to match the walnut wood panels and accents. For $175 I would expect much more. My portafilter came marred in certain areas around the basket handle. It’s not Clive’s fault as the retailer for quality control issues but after reading other reviews of this product I’m surprised they are still selling it. The ECM portafilter that came with my machine looks perfect, is beautifully crafted and appears as though it will last the lifetime of the machine retails for $80. This portafilter in comparison feels like something I could buy off of Amazon for $50.

The wood handle ant the portafilter itself are different diameters. Very poorly finish. Not what the pictures show.

With the price of 170 for a portafilter, this either better be very well design and craft carefully. Personally I would definitely go with other option elsewhere for much much lower price.

I specifically told them to check for cosmetic flaw such as scratches on wood and chrome part but apparently they just ignore. The Chrome came with scratch and mark. While it is not that huge of a deal since these kind of material will worn out in the long run but you wouldn't pay over a 100 bucks just to get flawed item.

The wood handle is matte and nothing so special. I would defintely give it some kind of water proof treament so that it wont get soft and worn out over time. Based how the handle feel, this will definitely. get worn out..

In conclusion, I found several better options that still have wood and chrome handle online that is worth look into. Those are definitely lower than the 80 dollars range or so. Amazon have a bunch. I won't return this back since they did state if you return without legitimate reason then you will need to pay for your own shipping.

Got this upgrade to improve consistency in pulling espressos. The wood looks great but still saving up for the other wood items to make the transformation complete. The portafiller fits perfectly and the weight feels solid. Since there's no spout to stabilise the portafiller it will lean to one side when weighing the coffee. But you'll get a great view when pulling an espresso in return!

Bought the portafilter and it arrived with small cracks and signs of wear, unlike the other pieces I bought (brew lever, etc.). Clive didn't believe I hadn't used it in the year since I bought it (we were caught in immigration limbo for a year, moving from the USA to Canada and everything was in storage with the movers) and recommended I use wood oil on it. It actually needs to be sanded and refinished. Disappointed in the quality of the product they sent and their customer service.

Bought this a year ago and finally brought it out of storage (our move from the US to Canada and got held up for a year because immigration slowed to a crawl on my wife's paperwork). Now, less than a month of use, and it's fading and has developed small cracks. Clive has refused to believe I wasn't using it for the year and suggested I use wood oil on it. No. It needs to be sanded down and retreated. Bummer. The other bubinga parts are great.

Adding wood to your machine elevates it to an unexpected level in your kitchen, making it less industrial and warmer in the home. I'm awaiting the walnut panels for the Synchronika itself, but this wood-handled portafilter looks incredible, feels even better and works perfectly. Why only 4 stars? The handle sometimes loosens and you have to hand tighten it a bit.

Don’t get me wrong this thing is expensive it’s actually the most expensive portafilter iv’e seen. Was it worth it? If you have the cash then yea. If your nuts like me then you throw a VST basket on this puppy and your in heaven.

Bought it last December and it is now my favorite. Great grip and well balanced! I am using it with a VST triple basket.

A really nice well finished bottomless portafilter. Only downside is a bit of rough finish on the wings. The handle also needs a little locktite or it will come loose pretty easily.
