This portafilter works fantastic and has excellence build quality as expected from ECM. I love being able to observe the extraction and also love that it allows me to place a larger cup on the drip tray of my ECM Synchronika. I’m able to get an Acaia lunar scale and 10oz ember mug under this portafilter or a 14oz ember mug without the Acaia lunar scale. The 14oz ember mug also does fit on the scale, but it’s a close fit and can sometimes trip the Acaia scale automatic flow detection prematurely. I’m not sure if it because of the weight of the mug or something else, but it’s not a big deal.

Quality is perfect. There's lots of info available about the benefits of bottomless portafilters. One extra bonus--the pressurized portafilters that came with my ECM were really a challenge to balance on my Lucca scale. This one is easy. Also much easier to tamp (oops, make that TWO extra bonuses).

The only con is that you cannot use the unibasket from Weber Workshop.

This is a life-changer! Best extraction in 25 years of roasting our own espresso blend for the Simonelli Mac Cup commercial machine in our kitchen. Thicker, richer and deeper flavor profile rivaled only by hand-pulled shots. One quibble - I have an oversized silicon gasket installed, but the ECM needs to be rotated quite far to the right to seal. I have retired the spout portafilters permanently!
