Not enough softening power

Before using this, my water hardness was at 250 ppm. After filtering my water and adding this water softening pouch, I was still at 250 ppm despite several weeks of use. Hard water is common in Southern California but this softening pouch made zero change in the hardness of my water. I ended up buying a water softening system since this method was ineffective.

Maybe it's just my water?

I tested my water after both filtering and adding this softening pouch, and it's still reading really hard. Sam says this happens and not to worry, but I'm wondering what else is wrong with my water!!!

Pouches work well but was disappointed on my last order of them as one of the two was not sealed proper and had the granular contents all over. Looks like the bags are heat sealed and the seal was off a little. Not clives fault so did not bother chasing for a replacement.

Frankly, using my TDS meter

Frankly, using my TDS meter purchased at Clivecoffee.com, there's no measurable difference in the water pre-treated by Oscar and post treatment by Oscar.

Sodium softening ion exchange pouches like the Oscar would only vary slightly in TDS after treatment since things are being exchanged and replaced. This TDS meter is not the way we recommend measuring total hardness or the effectiveness of your softening pouch. It would be best to measure the effectiveness of the pouch with a hardness test.

When we got our machine

When we got our machine a year ago, our water tested around 120 PPM on the test strips Clive included with the machine. After getting the Oscar pouch, we're right in the 50 range. We go through a decent amount of water and refill the 3 liter reservoir at least twice a week. At that rate, the pouch seems to last 3-4 months. I've been replacing it every three months since they're priced so reasonably.

I really don't think I

I really don't think I need these pouches as I use bottled spring water and I think it is pretty balanced. But I don't want to have to think about it at all and by using these, I don't have to worry about it at all.

Increased my TDS reading rather than lowering it

Bought this from a competitor but wanted to share review here as well. Installed pouch in reservoir with a TDS reading of 147. Waiting 24 hours and now the TDS reading is 178 so it appears that this does the exact opposite of what it claims to do and made my water harder.

Better tasting coffee, no residue

This is the simplest solution I have found to have plenty of "coffee water" on hand. I live in a hard water area and cleaning up the scale it leaves behind is tedious. This little pouch allows me to have 2 gallons ready all the time!

This does what it says. Tested my water and it was high hardness, ~150ppm. Threw this in, waited overnight and tested it again and it was under 50.

Simple and effective.

I live in Colorado and we have very hard water. I had to replace the solenoid valve every six months on my old machine and I had to scrub my water reservoir every two weeks to prevent a build up of minerals. In early October, I upgraded my machine and purchased a new Lucca A53 and have used the Oscar Water Softening pouch from the beginning. No build up in my reservoir at all, completely clean! I highly recommend the product if you have hard water.
