Frequently Asked Questions

Reviews

Precision espresso scale praised for accuracy, build quality, and slim design. Customers said "built tough" with "excellent scale" functionality. Features auto-timer, flow rate indicator, and Bluetooth connectivity. However, some found button controls confusing and mode switching difficult. Battery issues and firmware problems reported occasionally. Price considered high but justified by quality and longevity.

Understand one thing, you're reading

Understand one thing, you're reading this review because this scale has been on your mind, in your dreams, and popping up everywhere you turn. Quit debating and JUST BUY THE SCALE!!! You wouldn't be here reading my ramblings if you weren't interested.... LOL Now that's out of the way, on to the scale. Well, it's awesome! I've used cheap scales from a big online retailer, and from the moment I started using the Acaia Lunar I've been wowed. First thing I did was kick myself for using the cheap scales so long. It was incredible how responsive the Lunar was from jump street. Like BAM, let's start counting!!!! The other very noticeable distinction is the build quality, it's SOLID!!! We all know the espresso process has potential to be a bit less than 'tidy' at times. It's reassuring to know the Lunar is built to withstand those times when things don't go as planned. It's easy to overlook the key equipment needed to dial in the perfect shot. I can honestly say my workflow and process would not be what it is without the Lunar. I know it can be a debate when you see all these 'budget' or other scales all over the web. Trust me, spend the money! (buy once, cry once) Again, I debated whether or not this scale would be worth it. Rest assured my friends, IT IS!!!!! I'm completely satisfied with everything the Lunar has to offer! And let's not forget our friends at Clive.... If you have ANY questions whatsoever, don't hesitate to reach out to them! Clive has the absolute BEST customer service out there and they put the customer first! They will listen to your needs/wants and point you in the direction that suits YOUR needs!!! Highest of praise for the Clive Team! THANK YOU!!!!

I bought both Acia lunar

I bought both Acia lunar and Tally, after a week I returned the tally. Acia Luna has been around for couple years, it has a calibration weight, small foot print for pour over. Didn’t like how big the other scale was and how much real estate it took on my countertop.

Love the various functions, including the flow meter. It allowed me to dial in the right grind, and then make the perfect 30 sec ratio every time thereafter.

High end, at home digital scale

This scale is well made and so far very reliable. The connected app is a nice to have, but honestly, I don't use it much. Perhaps in the future. For sure, having a scale with a timer has elevated my extraction knowledge and allowed me to dial in the grind for good espresso shots. The packaging looked like it was from the apple store!

Do not waste your money on this poorly engineered piece of junk. Very finicky. Frequently will not start timer or tare properly. Way too sensitive. Defective from the get go.

Not ergonomic

There are no buttons. The on/off and tare press areas are hard to see, not back lit, and are not raised. I’ve used daily for 2 years and still drives me nuts. Should get a different brand but I’m stuck in sunk cost bias.

This is second Acaia scale

This is second Acaia scale purchased. Last one lasted 7 years. New to the design is a flow indicator and rubber pad is slightly thicker. Both improvements. Clive also has great customer support. Had a delivery issue which was my fault but addressed with their help. 😊

Bought it and upgraded the firmware to pair it with a La Marzocco Linea Mini and worked perfectly. Solid scale, built tough. Like the rubber mat and the calibration weight.

Bad

Bought it 3 years ago. I am so tired of constantly having to switch to the one mode I want (tare and time). I don’t know how but somehow every time I turn it on it’s in a different mode, and I have to spend 10 seconds pushing buttons to get it to the right mode. I don’t want a Swiss Army knife for a simple 1-faceted job. An espresso scale has 1 job…

Look for this scale in the local goodwill shortly.

I have bought AWS scales

I have bought AWS scales for years, but the quality has made them a terrible choice. Acaia Linat is as good and accurate as any Expresso enthusiast will ever need. The accuracy of the Achaia is a welcome relief to the daily struggle I had with other scales. It is expensive, but the shot timer, and the flow mode are very useful in refining a perfect brew. I highly recommend the Acaia Lunat.

Scale works great and is easy to use but is probably overkill. I don't use most of its features since my espresso maker already tracks shot time. I love its build construction, accuracy, and water proofing.

I love its small thin size. I can easily weigh the amount of espresso that comes out of the portafilter. This has taken my shot to a new level of consistency.

Great potential

Got this scale with my Profitec 600, and it is a great pair. I think that holds true to most espresso machines except few edgy new tech ones, which come with integrated scale – every espresso machine should have an integrated one, but most legacy makers, including Profitec/ECM, are far behind the digital age.

Pros:
1. Bluetooth connectivity provide endless potential. Most scale reviews don’t even cover Apps, but I think this is what Lunar really shines. Most coffee Apps will take Lunar scale, and you can play with brew profiles, record your brewing, etc. Those are the reason you need a Lunar. If you only need an “accurate” scale, $50 or less one will fit your need;
2. Build quality is very decent and solid;
3. Size is about right;
4. Upgradable though firmware; (can be confusing to find the right manual to match the firmware version)
5. Flexible and customizable to your needs – although, customization is not intuitive and take quite a learning curve.
6. I heard they have good customer service and repair.

Cons:
1. Acaia has too many Apps that doing little things in different style. Even logon to App is not consistent across Apps. They really should consolidate all into ONE App.
2. I wish they have a dedicate Mode button, rather than reuse the Power.
3. Difficult to find firmware version and model info. They have many versions of online user manual, and very hard for average users. The way manual was developed seems target IT developers, rather than end-users. E. g. Different usage mode is not named to be meaningful, but “Node1, 2, 3…”.

Overall, Lunar is far from perfect, but has great potential for users looking to go beyond traditional espresso brewing.
