Agua Fria comes from one of the most remote—and rewarding—origins we've encountered. Grown by farmer Sergio Molina in the village of Agua Fria, high in the San Sebastian region of Lempira, Honduras, this coffee represents both geographic isolation and extraordinary dedication. The lack of roads means Alma Coffee's team makes an eight-hour journey just to collect Sergio's harvest. What they find is worth every mile: incredibly dense, small beans shaped by extreme altitude and a farmer whose infectious optimism shows in every cup.
Alma Coffee roasts this lot light to preserve the floral clarity and fruit-forward brightness that high-altitude Honduran coffees rarely exhibit. The result is a coffee that drinks more like an Ethiopian natural than a Central American—complex, layered, and full of personality.
Tasting Notes
Expect vivid floral aromatics—jasmine, honeysuckle—with a juicy, fruit-forward body that leans toward stone fruit and berry. The acidity is bright and structured, almost effervescent, with a clean, lingering finish that leaves traces of brown sugar and citrus zest. This is a coffee that evolves as it cools, revealing new dimensions with each sip.
Brew Methods
Agua Fria shines brightest in pour over methods—V60, Kalita Wave, or Chemex—where its floral complexity and fruit clarity can fully express themselves. Use a medium-fine grind and water just off boil (around 200°F) to coax out the delicate top notes. It also performs beautifully in an AeroPress with a longer steep time (2–3 minutes) for a sweeter, more concentrated cup. While it can pull as espresso, the light roast demands precise dialing and works best as a longer shot or Americano to preserve its brightness.
