Fellow Ode Brew Grinder Gen 2

So happy I got this grinder! I had the earlier Fellow grinder and this one is way less noise and static, grinds until empty instead of by time (who’s grinding by time for single doeses??? That was weird in the first one), and the knocker tab is vital and a perfect improvement on the old version. With the old version, I was tapping the entire grinder on the counter to reduce retention. Crazy. This one is sweet. No notes. Highly recommend for its flawless design. Get one.

I purchased the Fellow Ode Gen2 as an upgrade to my coffee station/routine. I had been using a Baratza Encore for everything other than espresso, and the Ode Gen2 replaced it, and what a replacement! It grinds fast, quietly, and oh, the clarity it brings to the cup. Coffee is now sweeter, flavor notes are noticeable, and I'm loving this grinder! The Fellow Ode Gen2 and a good anaerobic coffee are a match made heaven!

This grinder is light years ahead of the grinder I was using. The price and performance are great. Highly recommend!

Nice and quiet. Solid build and versatility.

I love the Fellow design. The grind is very consistent with little dust, and the large dial is ridiculously easy to use. I grind different coffee beans each morning to fit my household’s coffee wishes, so the sleek just-in-time load bin suits my needs perfectly. I’ma big fan of the metal receptacle with the magnetic latch as well.

Its a really solid, well made coffee grinder. It grinds very quickly, relatively quietly with almost no vibration (the real noisemaker). Its great for light and medium roasts that aren't too oily and grinds them with almost no static. I still RDT/spritz with some water but only 1-2 pumps per 80g as opposed to 3-4 with the Breville Smart Grinder Pro. It struggles to feed oily beans due to the low angle of the hopper and the style of feedport and anti popcorn measures.

Where this grinder really struggles is with darker roasts. A dark roast bean can be soft enough to allow the grinder to think its done so the auto off triggers and you are left with a bunch of beans still to be ground. The static with a dark roast is still quite bad and if its a dark, oily bean you might as well prepare to clean up afterwards. I will say this was a known going into the purchase because almost every review noted this.

Build quality is nice although my bottom magnet for the catch cup is angled slightly. Cleaning is almost not needed if you grind daily with light/medium roasts. I opened it up to clean out after a month and didnt even bother to brush as it was pristine. The screws needed to remove the knob assembly are quite close to the knob itself so if you are using a 9/10 in 1 style screwdriver you may accidentally scratch the knob (ask me how I know) so use a long slender screwdriver with a magnetic tip and you'll be fine.

Last but not least, flavor. Its fantastic. The grind uniformity is visually better and the taste is incredibly noticeable. The reference guide under the lid has been spot on for me only having to adjust 1 click either way for my drip, v60 and aeropress.

If you dont mind a little more routine with your daily coffee ritual this is a great grinder at the price point and the best grinder you can get if you catch it on sale.

Really solid grinder, I use it for pour over and it works great. Fine tuning is easy, it grinds fast and consistently, there's very little static. It's great for single dose grinding, no leftover grounds between uses and it's relatively quiet. The catch up for the grounds is a nice, it's magnetically centered which is a cool feature. I wouldn't recommend it for espresso but if you're doing brewed coffee, anything from aeropress to french press this is the best grinder I've seen on the market. It may seem a little pricey but the performance and build quality are worth it.

The Fellow Ode Brew Grinder Gen 2 is as advertised and better. Small, yet powerful, with a setting for just about any grind. Quiet. Well made and a great machine especially for the price. It is also aesthetically pleasing. You cannot go wrong buying this grinder. I use it daily for fresh beans to use with the Mocamaster.

This is a well-engineered, thoroughly thoughtful grinder. I’ve used it for drip, French press, and pour over. Great consistency. The anti-static system works very nicely. Grounds retention seems minimal. The auto-off function is nice. It is relatively quiet, enough to someone talking with a little elevated volume but without yelling. Overall, I am very pleased with this grinder, particularly for the price point.

Exceedingly quiet! Simple to use. Even grounds. Dark and/or oily beans can be tricky, requiring manual intervention at times, but this seems to be the case in all drip coffee grinders.

Quiet, low retention, and great grind quality in the "brew" range. Easy to use, and remember your dial positions. I have not had any jamming issues like some have reported. If you're grinding finer, especially if you're going more than a click or two it's reccomended to make adjustments to the left with the grinder running. This prevents the possible jamming issue in the design. Once I find a setting, I don't move it until I get different coffee, so not at all an inconvenience. The one thing I dislike about the grinder is the cup design. I always pour from the side without the metal channel, and the lid is completely useless, but it doesn't look as slick if you display it with the lid off the cup. Maybe someone makes an after market improvement?

Nearly a 5. Great grinder—consistent, quiet, low profile on the counter. The automatic shut off works well. If used properly, there is very little retention of grounds. The anti-static feature works very well in virtually eliminating grounds on the counter. The only down side is that it jams occasionally. This is usually cleared by a gentle tap, as it usually is caused by beans getting stuck in a too-shallow feed chute. Small annoyances: the lip on the inside of the steel collection bin is totally unnecessary; the lips on the bean and collection bin covers could be a little deeper.

The anti-static and retention system is better than the Gen 1 device, but there are still some coffee beans where you have a mess to clean up after you grind beans. I also think it is a quieter machine, but marginally so. It's possible I am not keeping this as clean as I should, but I don't think that's the largest factor here as to why sometimes there is a retention issue. I've just noticed that some beans it works well, and others seem to cause the same issues as the Gen 1 machine. All in all, I can't say I recommend upgrading from a Gen 1. However, I would spend the extra money on the Gen 2 over the Gen 1 if I hadn't already invested in a Fellow Ode grinder.

I bought my grinder at the Clive shop in Portland to replace a baratza encore. It looks nice and is quiet but they failed to mention the massive issues with grind retention and mess. Fellow just should’ve fixed these issues before releasing the product? They were less than helpful when contacted for assistance as was Clive sadly.
