Double Double is a collaboration between Portland's Portrait Coffee and Unblended Coffee, a Colombian roaster and importer based in Buga. This washed Colombian coffee comes from producers in two renowned regions—Andes and Montebello in Antioquia—both cultivating at elevations between 1,800 and 2,000 meters above sea level. The farmers here are part of Unblended's UVI Recruitment program, an educational initiative designed to help emerging coffee producers build their brands internationally and achieve greater profitability.
The name "Double Double" captures the dual benefit of this coffee: exceptional flavor and meaningful purpose. When you brew a cup, you're not only enjoying a beautifully balanced Colombian coffee, but also investing in the future of coffee farming and helping change perceptions about agriculture as a viable, rewarding career for young farmers.
Tasting Notes
Expect warm brown sugar sweetness upfront with bright notes of light cherry that add complexity without overwhelming the cup. The body is medium and silky, with a clean, crisp acidity characteristic of washed Colombian coffees. The finish is sweet and lingering, leaving pleasant fruit and caramel impressions on the palate. This is a crowd-pleasing profile that showcases the quality potential of carefully processed Colombian coffee.
Brew Methods
Double Double shines across multiple brew methods. As pour over (V60, Chemex, Kalita), the clarity of the washed process highlights the delicate cherry notes and brown sugar sweetness. French press brings out more body and a rounder mouthfeel that emphasizes the caramel tones. For espresso, this coffee pulls beautifully with moderate development, offering sweet, fruit-forward shots that work wonderfully in milk drinks or straight. Drip coffee drinkers will appreciate its balanced, approachable character that makes it an excellent daily drinker.
