Description

En Masse is Portland's Metric Coffee crafting at its finest—a medium roast built for versatility, sourced from direct partnerships across Central and South America. This is the coffee that anchors Metric's café as their daily espresso and serves as the house blend for cafés throughout the Pacific Northwest. What makes it special? It's engineered to deliver whether you're pulling shots or brewing a morning pour over, with a sweetness and complexity that doesn't demand you choose sides.

Tasting Notes

Expect brown sugar sweetness up front, backed by milk chocolate richness and a subtle nuttiness that carries through to a clean, balanced finish. The body is medium—substantial enough to stand up to milk in a cappuccino, yet refined enough to shine black in a Chemex. Acidity is gentle and round, more reminiscent of dried fruit than bright citrus. The finish is long and satisfying, with caramel lingering pleasantly on the palate. This is a forgiving, crowd-pleasing profile that never feels boring.

Brew Methods

En Masse truly shines across the spectrum. As espresso, it pulls with gorgeous crema and a syrupy body that makes exceptional cappuccinos and lattes—dial it in around 1:2 ratio in 25-30 seconds for classic results. For pour over (V60, Kalita, Chemex), use a medium grind and aim for a 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio to highlight its sweetness. French press lovers will find it produces a full-bodied, comforting cup at 1:15 ratio with a four-minute steep. Even as batch brew or drip, it maintains its character beautifully. This is the rare coffee that you can set as your default and never feel limited.
