LUCCA 58mm Puck Screen

Does it reduce channeling? Probably. Definitely looks cool though 😆

The Lucca puck screen is a very nice accessory to have to help keep the group head and shower screen clean while pulling shots. Rinses clean easily between shots. Wouldn’t be without it now.

The screen helps reduce channeling and it also keeps my machine a lot cleaner. I like using it.

Should be standard issue with all machines. I believe my espresso shots taste better than without the screen. Bonus for me is how much cleaner the machine stays. The pucks are always solid leaving no residue in the portafilter screen.

I was somewhat cynical about the Lucca puck screen really making a real difference in reducing channeling and improving the taste of the espresso. Well, I am here to tell you that the difference the puck screen made was nothing short of fantastic. I'm a believer! Lars

I can’t prove whether the Puck Screen works or not, but I think it does. I take all the steps I know of to produce the best expresso I can from my machine: consistent grind size, weight, break up whatever lumps there are, tamp with leveler, and now use the Puck Screen. My wife thinks the coffee is better also, so maybe it’s not my wishful thinking.

This has improved my shots greatly

A few weeks ago I received an email from Clive Coffee promoting this screen. I watched the video linked to the email and ordered one.

Now I since I bought my machine during the pandemic, I have been religiously cleaning the group head of coffee grounds with a brush at the end of every session. This was always needed. This screen virtually eliminates that need.

Now I don't know if this is totally about channeling but it seems to be. Two things I have noticed is that my shots now seem to taste much smoother. I assume this is about having less "channeling" when I am pulling my shots. I don't know this for a fact and it could be the power of suggestion, but they do really seem to taste better.

Also when I dump the grounds into my hamper, they are now completely dry cakes. I think that is a good thing.

All told, I think this is a valuable tool.

A game changer for the ECM machine and the product it produces. By all means purchase the screen and use it.

I truly like the design of the interwoven layers in this puck screen… the thickness is definitely needed (not too thick nor too slim) for the shower screen to thoroughly saturate the puck evenly… I have yet to see any channeling in the use of my bottomless portafilter…

My first foray for a puck screen and I’m new to making espressos but this iddy bitty tool has made a noticeable difference in the quality of my shots. I’ve been super impressed and my pucks are also firm now. 100% would get again.
