Quick Mill M58 PID

Worked as intended. Install was a bit involved.

The digital display on our beloved 9-year-old Lucca M58 espresso machine was on life support. It showed only half the numbers. This replacement fit PERFECTLY and with no modification. This, along with other parts, make our Lucca look like a new machine!

The holes on the PID are too small. See photo. After taking it all apart to replace the old PID, I am more than a little upset that the replacement PID doesn’t fit! Please advise and send a new one.

This pid doesn’t support 20 amps which is required to simultaneously heat the boilers so heating is slower That function was the reason I picked this model It also overshoots the coffee boiler temp of 202F I replaced it because a few LEDs were out on the display I wish I could have just replaced the display and kept the previous PID

Couple of problems with replacing the PID. 1) the holes in the PID are too small for the bolts on the machine and have to be carefully enlarged. 2) the PID does not come with buttons on it, so you have to pry off the buttons from the old piece and superglue them to the new one. Have to be precise (I wasn’t) for them to fit into the openings of your machine. FWIW, I replaced the PID in this machine initially 3 years ago and reported these issues. The current one is identical to the last replacement with no new changes.

Shipped quickly. Packaged neatly. I had it installed by a certified repair shop and has my machine serviced as well. Overall, happy with the service and product!

You may want to watch the video offered by Clive Coffee for a overview of the replacement process. That stated, be conscious of the fact that the repair setup in the video is NOT in your kitchen where your Lucca M58 may be direct plumbed. The change-out process is in a tight area and the wires have very little slack to maneuver. The job may be further challenged if your unit is positioned in your kitchen under wall cabinets. You may want to disconnect and remove the two side and one back panels. One important thing the video does NOT show is that the two push buttons must literally be broken off of the original PID and glued onto the new unit. Watch closely as the tech puts the new PID into the unit - the new unit transitions from having two white protective plastic pieces over the button stems to magically having the silver buttons attached to the new PID. Another hurdle to get over is reattaching the wires through the back of the protective "box" that surrounds the PID. My work-around was to take a coping saw and remove the bottom of the box. This way, I could install the new PID and reattach the four connectors and the four individual wires without having to fish them through the back of the small box. I then just drop the now bottomless box over the unit and bolt into place. The PID is still completely protected with this modification. Finally, the PID supposedly arrives preprogrammed. This may be true if I live in Italy. I had to enter program mode to change the sets....not too difficult but I do not like monkeying with any settings. Bottomline, I love my Lucca M58 machine...an every day pleasure. The PID, however, did not last long before the LEDs began to fail. Enough lights went out that I finally had to replace the unit.

Upgrade from the 3 year old PID it replaced. Allows both boilers to heat at the same time instead of cycling between each boiler individually. Easy to install if you have even a small amount of mechanical skills, but would recommend that you take a photo of where the numerous cables go before you pull it apart. Watch the online video first to ensure you know how to remove and reinstall the cladding. The screws securing the PID's housing are small and a bit tricky to get off and back on without their falling into the machine where they become difficult to locate and extract.
