Ratio Eight Series 2 Coffee Maker

It is a great maker. We’ve used a Technivorm and Baratza we got from you for several years now and honestly I never thought we would change makers. I’m glad we got the Ratio. It makes a beautiful cup. I drink my coffee black. So the quality of the brew the maker can produce matters. Kona, Blue Mountain, Yemen and other fine coffees are in regular demand at our house. Again a good maker matters. Our morning “ritual” has been modified a bit. It’s been worth it. As the picture shows it is the white version. I only mention this because your inventory will show I ordered a black one. We liked the white one so much we just kept it. An espresso machine might be next.

I have tried many coffee makers. They all do many things such as telling the time But fail to make a truly good cup of coffee which the RATIO does no if's and or buts.I look forward to having m y RATIO for many years.

Absolutely do not buy. I had a slightly better experience than other reviewers who experienced this problem after only a few uses, but this stopped working for me after a few months of use. I sent it back to be repaired, then after a wait of a few months for the repairs to finish it broke again in the same way. My father in law also bought this and had the same problem.

No response from customer support when requesting a refund. Believe the one star reviews. This is a totally worthless, overpriced piece of garbage.

Terrible

The design is hands down amazing, but more importantly the cup of coffee that comes the design. This coffee maker produces an incredible cup. They’ve designed it in a way that you get the best pour over an automatic coffee maker can produce. It’s very easy to use, high quality build and their warranty is by far the best

good but more effort required to make coffee. Coffee does not stay hot long and carafe is not much better.

I have one of the original Ratio 8s. It is great for coffee, but the surface is not durable. They apologetically upgraded my machine several years ago, and now the newer surface also has significant issues. I treat it very well and again really enjoy the coffee but it really has not maintained its beauty which is a bit of a bummer.

My wife always likes coffee machine even though we have several already. She falls in love with Clive Coffee Machine first time when she put eyes on it. We love the style and function of this product. Great product...

I had very high expectations based on the reviews of others and my high expectations were exceeded. The quality and beauty of the machine are amazing and the coffee it makes is truly exceptional.

Unpacking my Ratio Eight reminded me of the day 8 years ago when the first iPads were released - great anticipation of an innovative product designed and crafted with care. Unfortunately, the coffee brew was below expectations, never reaching the optimal 195 to 205 degree range in the brew filter (mine maxed out at 193). By the time the brew was completed, the coffee in the carafe had dropped down to the 150 degree range, slightly above lukewarm (even when I preheated the carafe with hot tapwater). The result was disappointing flavor. When I asked Clive customer service if my machine could be adjusted, they explained that the brew temp was due to the open brew basket design. I returned my unit and am waiting for my refund. Overall, a disappointing experience. The Clive people I dealt with seem great, so I root for them to redesign the unit to fix the brew temp flaw. If so, I would give it another try.

Ordering the Ratio Eight Edition coffee maker, was worth the the expense, and even worth the hassle involved in buying it!

I live on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Unfortunately, Clive Coffee is not set up to take orders from areas outside of the continental USA. For a company offering state-of-the-art coffee making equipment, this was a big surprise! You'd expect them to be equipped to sell internationally - or at least to the United States Virgin Islands. Nevertheless, the effort involved in having my California based son, order and then transship the coffee maker to me in St. Thomas, was worth the trouble.

I own a Bonavita BV 1900 TS, and a Technivorm Moccamaster. They are very good drip coffee makers, especially the latter. The Ratio Eight, however, is in a class by itself. At this level of performance, the difference between coffee makers is incremental, but three weeks spent using the Ratio Eight, has resulted in my "mothballing" the other two. The coffee this drip coffee maker brews is that good. Its incredibly elegant design makes it visually appealing, as well. So, having been shocked, initially, that someone would be expected to pay $595 for a drip coffee maker, and in my case, another $45 to have it transshipped to the Virgin Islands, I'm ecstatic! Another big draw of this machine is the ease of cleaning it. I brew, pour two large mugs of the coffee for my wife and I, rinse the carafe in fresh water, and then let it dry. A two second, wipe-off of the coffee maker drip head etc. - cleanup finished. My fresh ground beans are sent weekly, via express mail, from a small Stateside roaster, and I use a Breville, grinder.

This is one beautiful machine. It works as advertised and of course, is a quite the attention getter.
I have had to rethink the coffee water grind ratio as I never did pour over before. I also added a Kobe filter. A great change of pace addition, but again the ratio thing needs to thought out.
My one issue is that the coffee while great for the first cup cools very quiclkly.
No problem if you are a one cup or so kind of person. If you are expecting to drink more, best if you brew less and brew more often.

I waited almost two years for the coffee maker - when it arrived it looked nice and the coffee tasted fine - but it's not worth the $ IMO. The coffee gets cold fast (no warmer plate underneath the glass carafe) & it's difficult to clean. The carafe requires constant cleaning & the coffee stains don't thoroughly come out of the metal - even with rigorous washing. Bummer. About to sell mine on ebay to free up some counter space.

Amazing and nothing can compare to the taste of this machine's brewed coffee. Yes pricey but worth every single penny. I have two of these units one in Cobalt and one in silver with walnut arms. This is made with highly graded products. I am a home stagers and used them for a while and received so many inquiries. This machine itself is a piece of art. I am Canadian purchaser. For those in Canada you need this and its easy to order and ship to your PO box in the USA of to your home but I suggest sending it to your mail centre. I don't usually write reviews but I had to from the machine appearance to the brewing cycle is top notch, I have used similar units but this one is the only one you will want and have no regrets. Also customer service is out of this world. Any questions or possibly concerns. The team responds quicker than other online stores. They are there to assist you with anything. One thing I don't see a lot now a days is follow up. I recently ordered some accessories not only did they ship the item out quickly they also emailed me to let me know the item has been delivered. Especially when we all are so busy in life. Yes I know it seem pricey for a coffeemaker but this isn't just you ordinary machine. Its built to last and what manufacturer offers a 10 year warranty. In itself should say it all. Don't be cheap and save a couple hundred dollars buying other machines as I truly believe you get what you paid for in life. I like to personally say thank you to Mark H the inventor, his team and Clive Coffee for all there help in getting me my machines and answering any questions I had. The packaging of the Ratio in itself is a WOW factor. They put in alot of time and resources to make this machine stand out! You need to just order one and you will agree with me. I can't wait to get there thermal carafe.

I've been drinking coffee for over 40-years. I have brewed coffee using most every method. When my Technivorm recently broke I began a search for a replacment brewer (not that the Technivorm made a bad cup. It is actually a remarkable brewer for the price). I looked at over a dozen brewers, but I kept coming back to the Ration Eight. My only hesitation was the price, but, perhaps inspired by its artistic look, I finally ordered. I have been using the Ration Eight for a week now, and I'd like to say, first, that this brewer is visually stunning (mine is the Cobalt). It turns heads sitting on my kitchen counter. It is also seemingly very well made and fairly heavy. Most importantly, however, I am blown away by the coffee I am now drinking. I can honestly say it may be the best I've had. I use a medium-course grind, RO water, Chemex filters (pre-moistened), and a 16:1 water to coffee ratio (and, yes, I weigh the beans prior to grinding). The machine is quite simple to operate, and it fills the kitchen with an amazing aroma. It does make some noise as the water flows, but I am used to this sound (from other auto-pour-over type machines). Some condensation does gather on the upper front of the pot which I just wipe away with a soft cloth after the brew cycle is complete. The coffee is clear and clean, rich and very smooth, and there is absolutely no hint of bitterness. It actually makes a better cup than I can doing manual pour-over. Call me amazed. I think I found the perfect brewer. Steep price? Yes, but I'm glad I did not let that stop me from acquiring this beauty.

Beautiful machine, makes amazing coffee. My only complaint is that ours seems to have accumulated a small amount of water/condensation beneath the glass inside the machine. It otherwise continues to work well and produces great coffee.

We have used our Ratio at least once a day for the last year, since receiving it, and it is dynamite. Takes a little trial and error perfecting the grind size, but we love it.
Fresh ground coffee and this coffeemaker = never needing to go to a coffee shop again!
One critique/suggestion: The coffee filter that can be purchased on here doesn't do well with a full pot--with 70gm of coffee, for 40 oz of water, you have to watch it very carefully so it doesn't overflow. We've gone to cone paper filters made for Chemex but really wish there was a reusable cone filter that was taller so it wouldn't have as much chance of overflowing while the coffee brews.

This is a great way to make good coffee for a lot of people all at once. But it’s not a great way to make good coffee for a few people that might last those people a little while. It doesn’t stay warm; the reasons why are obvious, and the coffee wouldn’t endure being warmed. But if you’re thinking, “Oh, this’ll be like having a coffee machine, only cooler,” well, you’re right, but not how you think. That being said, I’m glad I bought it, but mostly because it’s pretty and interesting.

Unfortunately, the Ratio Eight is not ready for the market yet. And thus, it has been a particularly frustrating and expensive mistaken purchase. Several things need fixing.

First, despite numerous attempts to brew a full pot of coffee, I have yet to be able to do so. Each and every time the coffee has threatened to overflow. This is the case even when coarser grinds are used (which of course undermines the premise of the Ratio 8 - namely that it allows you to have the highest quality coffee experience, since extremely coarse grinds deviate from the ideal to achieve the best favor coffee.

Second, when you remove the pot - because the coffee is going to overflow - the machine pauses. But alas, I have yet been able to get the machine to reengage once the coffee pot in replaced in the machine. Thus, I have to turn off the machine and start all over, etc.

Third, the coffee does not stay hot and thus must be placed in a carafe. Because the coffee pot has a rubber bottom with a magnet - designed supposedly to allow you to remove the pot during the brew cycle to pour coffee (which of course no one would actually do, since the brew cycle is about 5 minutes, and besides see the problem above about reengaging the brew cycle... - one can not place the coffee pot on the stove to keep it warn, as one could if they just bought the coffee pot separately and then did a less technically sophisticated pour over with a kettle. So, as I say the coffee becomes cold exceedingly quickly.

Four, there are some general oddities. Read the C-Net Review from Aug. 12, 2015.

All of these things have meant that we basically don't use the Ratio 8 (except on the weekend, perhaps...)

Basically, I very much wanted to think well of this product (indeed it was a present for my girlfriend). But alas I think people should take a pass at this point.

I've had some of the top of the line coffee machines, including two Moccamasters, several electric siphon brewers, and a Bonavita, but the Ratio Eight is the best by far, for its simplicity and great bloom/brewing stage. It's also beautiful.

The ratio is beautiful to see on our counter and makes the best drip coffee ever. We love it.

The Ratio brews up coffee that tastes like it came from my favorite local coffee house. Plus it looks good sitting on my kitchen counter.

I fell in love with the Ratio when I saw it online. Despite the price I wanted it and had to have it. Today, I received it. The packaging is even exquisite. BUT, it weighs a ton, it's huge, I cannot put water in it if it's under the counter and it takes up so much space. I cannot move it each time I want to make coffee because it's so bulky and heavy. It spurts water all over the counter while brewing and it drips from the condensation. And that was all for 15 oz. of coffee. Also, I only want to make one cup. I am only one person. This coffeemaker will not begin to brew if it doesn't have 15 oz. of water in the tank. I didn't know that before I received it. This is a bust for me all around. I'm very disappointed I will have to return it.
