The La Marzocco GS3 Automatic Volumetric is the machine that redefined what a home espresso setup could be. Released in 2008, it brought true commercial performance into kitchens, with the same saturated group technology, dual-boiler architecture, and rotary pump you'd find behind the bar at a world-class cafe. Fifteen years later, it's still the benchmark. If you want to serve back-to-back drinks without compromise, dial in like a competition barista, and own a machine built to last decades, this is it.

Key Features

  • Dual Boiler System: Independent brew and steam boilers let you pull shots and steam milk simultaneously without thermal compromise. The brew boiler holds temperature within a fraction of a degree.
  • Saturated Group Head: The group is thermally stabilized by direct contact with the brew boiler—the same design La Marzocco uses in its commercial line.
  • Volumetric Dosing: Program shot volumes with a single button press. Repeatable, precise, fast. You set the ratio once, and the GS3 delivers it every time.
  • PID Temperature Control: Set brew temperature to the tenth of a degree. Light roast? Bump it up. Dark roast? Dial it down. You're in full control.
  • Rotary Pump: Quieter and smoother than a vibratory pump, with adjustable pressure. Switchable between reservoir and direct plumb
  • Pre-Infusion: Gently saturate the puck before full pressure extraction. Better flavor, more even extraction, fewer channeling issues.
  • Shot Timer: Built-in digital timer tracks extraction from the first drip. Dial in by time and taste, just like a pro.
  • Commercial Build Quality: Stainless steel chassis, brass internals, modular components designed for repair and longevity. This isn't a disposable appliance.

Ideal For

This machine is for the serious home barista. You're done with compromises. You want commercial-grade performance, not a toy that looks like one. You're ready to invest in a grinder that matches the GS3's capabilities because this machine will expose every flaw in a mediocre grind.  The GS3 AV is particularly well-suited for households where multiple people drink espresso throughout the day, or for aspiring cafe owners testing recipes at home. The volumetric dosing means anyone in the house can pull a dialed shot with a single button press.

    If you’re on the fence,

If you’re on the fence, make the leap. The GS3 is phenomenal in every way and is a huge improvement from even the best of E61 machines. The difference in the cup is immediately noticeable. I love the convenience of auto volumetrics and, despite what some have experienced, the La Marzocco App works flawlessly. While opinions may differ, I also think the GS3 looks really striking on the counter. Service from both Clive and La Marzocco are both top notch.

What an amazing machine. The consistency of shots is near perfect. For anyone in the market to move up to a high quality volumetric pump, this machine is a dream. The large front loading reservoir is an added convenience. Pricey, but well worth it.

GS3 AV continues to over deliver

I have been very happy with my machine. The more you pay, the higher the expectations. The GS3 has delivered on all of my expectations and more. I have it plumbed and set to turn on at 4 am and off at 10 am. I expect to have it for 10+ years. If espresso is your passion, I highly recommend it.

    Excellent experience

Have had this machine for 8 years and it has performed admirably. Experienced a few minor issues requiring a replacement of a small part, but overall has been hugely reliable. Previously I've had other machines, but most lasted about 3 years tops. The quality of the shot greatly exceeds most local shops. I've used a local service company in San Diego for yearly service, because it's something you want to keep in pristine shape. While I didn't purchase the machine from Clive, my son has bought other machines here and raves about the support and service. Bottom ine is if you want the best home machine available go with this

    The best...Ever (and Clive rocks)

This machine is the best I have ever used and I am in love with it. I had the La Spazilafe Mini Vivaldi II prior to buying this functional work of art. The VII was pretty awesome and it was easy to use. The GS/3 is even better. It's exceptional build blows away the VII. While the learning curve is ongoing the resulting shots are amazing. It takes time to learn the technology behind the machine but I love playing with the endless variables.

My machine has the wood side panels and it's beautiful. The GS/3 lives up to the La Marzocco name.

I do find the price prohibitive to most and I wish that the there would be ways for ways for people to be able to afford and enjoy this truly amazing piece of kit.

I do want to give a shout out to Ken and the Clive Coffee team. They are amazing and wonderful. Ken is the best and worst salesman. He had no pressure to get me to upgrade my machine yet answered all the questions I could dream of and even helped me figure out how to work. Clive is great and I will continue to send my friends to the team of coffee experts.

    Amazing machine!

I love this machine, I can really bring out the best of each shot with it, and I never feel like the machine is standing in the way of finding the perfect setting(as I would with lesser machines). It is a pricey machine, but if you're considering taking it up a notch, this is worth the jump.
