CODECH is a cooperative in the northern region of Huehuetenango department, near the Chiapas, Mexico border. It’s a region known for the highest elevations in Central America. María Velasquez Cruz is a member of the cooperative. She farms just under two acres of land which she calls “El Rinconcito” or her special little corner of the world. She has been producing coffee since 2020. She utilizes the agronomy technical assistance from the cooperative to help her learn to produce great coffee. Idyll’s Director of Coffee has a long term relationship with CODECH. During her role working on the importing side of coffee she helped develop a micro lot cupping competition which is still held annually to promote financial benefit to coffee growers producing exceptional coffee.
