Peru is a country with many different coffee producing pockets. This coffee comes from the northern region of the country, near the border with Ecuador. La Prosperidad de Chirinos is a cooperative long known for producing exceptional quality coffee. Dedicated producer members separate out their coffee and offer it as a micro lot, meaning the coffee is not mixed with other producers' coffee to make a bulk lot. This provides for more traceability, quality and higher revenue for the cooperative. Chirinos also has a focus on sustainability. Cooperative members are encouraged to diversify their farms by raising sheep, guinea pigs, trout, pigs.This provides food security which is very important for producers living in remote mountain valleys.
