The Profitec Pro 400 is proof that you don't need a commercial-sized footprint to pull café-quality shots at home. This compact heat exchanger machine packs an E61 group head, adjustable pre-infusion, and serious thermal stability into a chassis that fits comfortably on most kitchen counters. At $1,699, it's one of the most capable espresso machines under $2,000, a true heat exchanger with the build quality and feature set typically found in machines costing significantly more.

Heat exchanger technology means you can steam milk and pull shots back-to-back without waiting for the boiler to reheat. The E61 group head stays thermally stable shot after shot, and the adjustable pre-infusion lets you gently saturate the puck before full pressure kicks in, a game-changer for lighter roasts and more forgiving extractions. The vibratory pump keeps the machine quiet and compact, while the internal reservoir means no plumbing is required. Just fill, heat, and pull.

Key Features

  • E61 group head: Commercial-grade thermal stability and flow control in a home-sized package
  • 3-Way Temperature Switch: Brew accurately
  • Heat exchanger boiler: Steam and brew simultaneously without the wait
  • Adjustable pre-infusion: Toggle switch activates low-pressure pre-wetting for more even extractions
  • ECO mode: Reduces boiler temperature during idle periods to save energy
  • Reservoir-fed: No plumbing required
  • Customizable gauges: Swap colored rings to match your kitchen aesthetic
  • Commercial no-burn steam wand: Cool-touch stainless for safe, precise milk texturing

Ideal For

The Profitec Pro 400 is built for intermediate home baristas who want heat exchanger power without sacrificing counter space. If you're upgrading from a single-boiler machine or a beginner-focused semi-automatic, this is the logical next step. It's ideal for households that make multiple milk drinks back-to-back and want the flexibility to experiment with pre-infusion and advanced recipe building. The reservoir setup makes it perfect for renters or anyone who doesn't want to commit to plumbing. If you value build quality, thermal performance, and room to grow as a barista, the Pro 400 delivers, and at $1,699, it's one of the smartest espresso investments under $2,000.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Don't take our word for it.

Customers praised this espresso machine's "high quality" build and "consistent temperatures." Many enjoyed the compact size, pre-infusion feature, and adjustable brew temps. However, one customer reported steam pressure issues within 45 days. Most found it "amazing" value with "coffee-shop level" results, though some noted the smaller boiler size.

    • Amazing machine! High quality of workmanship. Great deal for all features!
    • Honestly the best bang for the buck you can buy.
    • I now enjoy coffee-shop level drinks right in my home :)

    My first "pro" home machine

My first "pro" home machine purchase, and wow, what a great upgrade from a fully automatic espresso machine! I have really enjoyed [finally] learning the art of espresso making through this machine. It is a joy to use, seems really well built, and looks fantastic! The Pro 400 is a great investment, and I now enjoy coffee-shop level drinks right in my home :)

    I've been thoroughly impressed by

I've been thoroughly impressed by the Pro 400. I switch between roast levels often, so I wanted to be able to have control over the temperature but still stay within a reasonable budget. The switch on the bottom let's me easily flip between lower temperature (for darker roasts) and medium (for medium and light roasts). I've only used the high temperature setting when steaming milk for hot chocolate, but the steam is already great at the medium setting and I find the high setting to be unnecessary. Compared to my previous machine of comparable price, the Pro 400 heats up a bit faster (fully ready in a bit under 15 minutes) and maintains temperature at the brewhead much more reliably. I'm also very happy with how thin the machine is, since I'm working with fairly limited counter space. Overall, I have no complaints and highly recommend the Pro 400 if you're looking for a machine in this price range.

Hey Frederick - thanks for the review and the great pictures! So glad you're loving the Pro 400.

    I've been using this machine

I've been using this machine for a few weeks now and it is fantastic! Very consistent temperatures, easy to clean, overall everything I expected. Easy to manage the long heat up times with a smart switch, which has it preheated well before I wake up each morning

Steam died off within 45 days

DO NOT GET THIS! Please check the reddit discussion on this issue. Everyone is having this within 30-90 days of use. The steam pressure just dies off, Clive did advise me to change the valve gasket and were kind enough to ship it for free but that did not fix it. I have informed them and am waiting for the next steps, will update here on how it goes. But , I am reading online and no one has had this issue resolved yet and many many ppl hv the same issue.

    After tens of hours of

After tens of hours of research about the ECM Classika PID, Lelit and Rocket, I ended up choosing this machine instead in spite of having only one review in YT and no other independent reviews. It was a chance well worth taking, in retrospect. This machine has all the features I wanted and none that I don't. While it lacks PID, it sports 3 different brew temperature settings. It also features pre-infusion mode which is an absolute killer feature and produces some of the best shots I've had. The large steel boiler and the heat exchanger means I can multitask when needed and can get my Americanos or hot water for tea in seconds. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is the ergonomics. The machine could have been an extra inch or two wider and spread the controls and brew group and brew group lever a little better. That aside, I would highly recommend it to any enthusiast without hesitation. (4.75 stars)
