All coffee has a long journey to reach us here in Wisconsin, but Muungano rivals for the longest and most difficult pathway. Coopérative Agricole Muungano is located on the shores of Lake Kivu in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The cooperative has many challenges to overcome to produce exceptional coffee, but a lot of hard work and perseverance pay off in the cup. “Muungano” means “Togetherness” in Swahili. In a region of the world that is no stranger to social unrest and where there are infrastructure challenges every step of the way, the concept of togetherness is a hopeful message to share. This coffee is from Muungano’s resilient women producer group within the cooperative. From the heart of Africa to North Avenue, many hands work together to cultivate and share this beautiful coffee with the world.
