Need to Know

The La Spaziale Mini Vivaldi II is the rare espresso machine engineered for commercial duty that became a home barista favorite. With a dual boiler system, volumetric shot programming, and a saturated group head, it delivers café-level consistency in a compact footprint. This is the machine Clive's team has pulled shots on daily since the company's founding in 2008, and the blueprint for Clive's own LUCCA A53 Mini.

The Mini Vivaldi II sits in a category rarely found in home espresso: true commercial architecture scaled for residential use. Its 53mm portafilter is more forgiving than the 58mm standard, making it easier to dial in consistently, and its volumetric buttons let you program exact shot volumes so you're not timing every pull by hand. The result is a machine that teaches you better technique while still delivering world-class espresso when you're half-awake on a Tuesday morning.

Key Features

  • Dual boiler system: Independent brew and steam boilers mean zero wait time between pulling shots and steaming milk
  • Volumetric shot control: Program your ideal shot volume once, then pull perfect repeatable shots with a single button press
  • 53mm portafilter: A slightly smaller basket diameter is more forgiving during dosing and tamping
  • Saturated group head: Thermally stable design maintains consistent brew temperature shot after shot
  • Digital PID temperature control: Dial in your exact brew temp and hold it within a degree
  • Vibratory pump with front-loading reservoir: Just fill the reservoir, and you're ready to pull shots
  • Auto on/off scheduling: Program the machine with the La Spaziale S2 iOS app to warm up before you wake up
  • Optional shot timer and pre-infusion chamber add-ons: add-on features for baristas who want more control over extraction
  • Optional drainable drip tray add-on: Easy maintenance without pulling the machine forward

Ideal For

The Mini Vivaldi II is built for beginner to intermediate to home baristas who want commercial performance without commercial plumbing. If you've outgrown a single-boiler machine and you're tired of waiting between shots and steam, this is the upgrade. It's also ideal for households where multiple people make espresso drinks throughout the day. The dual-boiler system and volumetric programming mean anyone in the house can pull a great shot without re-dialing for each shot.

We researched many machines and then bought this coffee maker for our cafe/coffee house. We have been using it for 3.5 years and it has worked beautifully. We received fabulous service and our machine proudly is called “Clive.”

Great machine, great price!

The first one arrived damaged and Clive Coffee was very helpful when it came to returning and replacing it. We've only had it for a couple weeks but so far, we love it!

Amazing Machine

It's been 3 years since buying this machine and I'm still very happy with it. I made thousands of lattes/cappuccinos over the past 3 years and saved lots of $$$$. Technically my coffee is free now since I don't need to pay $4 for a latte. I bought the machine with wood panels and it looks great. I also bought the mini Mazzer grinder and now I roast my own coffee. I could not be happier. The service at Clive is next to none, outstanding.

Thanks Christian! Let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.

Excellent prosumer machine!

I spent weeks researching which machine to upgrade to (had been using a Breville Barista Express for two years). Found this on Clive Coffee and was smitten with the features, reviews, and custom wood panels. In the first 3 weeks with the machine, my worst shots on the Mini are better than my best shots on the Breville. I'm still getting used to the operation of it but am more confident with each pull.

It's really a pro machine that is helping me make better shots. The steam is also exceptional.

Couldn't be happier

I make 2-3 cappuccinos a day with this machine and it doesn't miss a beat. This machine has blown away all of my expectations and I can't rave enough about it. And if you're considering the custom wood panels, Do It! they look amazing in pictures, but even better in person.

Now on to Clive Coffee and the service I received...Second to NONE! I can honestly say that I rarely receive the service and attention that I got from Paul and Clive Coffee. As a small business owner myself, I can't stress enough how important Customer service is today and Clive Coffee is on top of it!

Outstanding Expresso Machine

I spent months researching expresso machines. Based on my budget started looking at single boilers and heat exchange machines but soon realized that the best long term option for me was a double boiler (knowing myself if I bought a single boiler or HE I was going to upgrade to a DB machine within a few years and I might as well put the money upfront for one). After researching DB machines I narrowed it down to either a Quick Mill DB, Alexia or Mini Vivaldi. After talking to Chris at Clive Coffee I decided to purchase the Mini Vivaldi and I am extremely happy with my decision, not only the machine but also buying it from Clive Coffee, amazing service!
I have used the machine for a little over 2 months and here are the things I like:
1. Ease of use: both milk frothing and expresso are relatively easy to learn after a few tries. Of course, I am still learning some of the nuances of making excellent expresso but I was able to make a decent quality expresso after a few days.
2. Quality of expresso: I used to own a simple expresso machine (under $300) and it made decent expresso. The expresso with the Mini Vivaldi is so much better, huge difference! (well, there is also a huge price difference). My family is also very happy with the lattes I can make.
3. Easy to clean: so far cleaning has been easy. I have not own it long enough to have to do maintenance.
4. Looks: with the walnut side panels?amazing! If you can afford it I would strongly recommend getting the wooden panels.
5. Other accessories: I bought the bottomless portafilter. Very helpful. It allows me to brew expresso into a larger cup for americano.

One thing that would have been nice is having the option to plumb the machine. The water tank is large and I only have to fill it once a week. I did not have the option to plumb a machine at home (reason why I did not get the Vivaldi) but I would have liked to have the ability to plumb the machine in the future.

Overall this is a great machine. Will also recommend Clive Coffee. The whole team was very helpful and patient during the research and eventual purchase of the machine. Chris was extremely helpful in my final decision and also helping me set up the machine and get going in making great coffee. Will definitely buy from Clive Coffee in the future.

Amazing Machine

What an amazing machine. I purchased this machine from Clive last Spring and wanted to get 'some' use before posting a review.

Buy it! Buy it with the wood panels and pre-infusion, it's a work of art that works every time you use it. and stunning to look at My home is filled with art and this machine fits in quite well.

It's reliable as all can be. Never a hiccup, and the espresso is delightful. 'God shots' are readily available.

It's easy to setup and use. My wife and kids use the hot water feature for tea and hot cocoa. The water tank is large and will go for quite some time before needing to be filled (which is easy and quick).

The build quality is amazing. I wouldn't expect anything less from an Italian espresso machine company.

Also, Ken at Clive is beyond helpful. I spoke with him several times and exchanged several emails. Clive Coffee is a delight to deal with and I cannot wait to visit them in person in the future.

Happy Camper

? Our goal was to purchase an espresso machine and grinder for a caf at a small church.
? We purchased our equipment from Clive Coffee. The salesperson, Chris R. could not have been more helpful in directing us toward the correct items for our needs and offering a reasonable price. I worked with several other companies and no one else came close. I'd suggest that Clive Coffee does everything possible to keep Chris R. working for them!
? Even though we purchased our equipment from Clive Coffee, it actually shipped from Chris' Coffee Service.
? One of the four feet had come completely detached in shipping. Obviously La Spaziale is aware of this, as they state in the manual, "Twist all four rubber feet (3) hand tight as they may vibrate loose during shipping." Reattaching it was no big deal.
? The unit was dripping water in the box, obviously from being bench-tested. It makes me wonder if there might be issues of freezing when shipping. Then again, in colder months, they may take more care to dry out the machine. In any case, I appreciated receiving a bench-tested unit.
? We purchased the La Spaziale Vivaldi II ? which requires a water supply connection. Our unit came with a single sheet of paper warning us to follow some steps before plugging in the unit. Yet, the warning sheet was for the tank-water-supplied "Mini Vivaldi", and therefore just a touch confusing.
? I work at a scientific laboratory equipment company where we design and manufacture pretty expensive analysis machines (sometimes with a seven-digit price tag). Examining the inside the Vivaldi II reminded me of the quality workmanship I see every day where I work. I'm impressed.
? The unit did not ship with a printed manual, but instead directs us to download it from Chris' Coffee. That's fine by me. However, the downloaded manual also references the official La Spaziale manual that contains all the safety information ? but there is no explanation as to how to get this official manual. That's not fine by me.
? The manual has many mistakes, is confusing, contains weird diversions, and has the feeling of a cobbled-together mess. Here are some examples:
o The use of the term "boiler" is confusing. This product has two boilers, a steam boiler and a group boiler. While the manual sometimes refers to a "group boiler" and a "steam boiler", sometimes it does not. For example, "The light corresponding to the set temperature starts flashing to indicate that the group is heating and the automatic boiler refill starts until the water level preset by the manufacturer is reached."
o This is what I would call a diversion, "A triac is a device to which a small DC control voltage can be applied in order to turn on a large AC current source? Think of a triac as a solid state semiconductor equivalent of an electro-mechanical relay?"
o The chart on page 28 (Quick Setting Guide) is horribly pixilated (and colored) revealing a lack of craftsmanship by the author. However, the chart itself is very useful.
? So far, we have not run into any problems with the Vivaldi II. Programming the pre-infusion time and dose volume was a piece of cake. The steam is pretty impressive too.
? I would like to see an automatic shot timer accessory for this unit.
? We also purchased the Mazzer Super Jolly with doser.
o This grinder is fast and quiet.
o The doser likes to hoard coffee grinds in the chute, so I find myself removing the finger shield and digging for grounds using the brush between sessions.
o The label indicating which way to turn the adjustment ring is easy enough to understand, but equally easy to misinterpret. It is kind of like looking at a 3D wire cube and not sure which end is up.
o A worm gear or some other device to make micro-adjustments would be welcome.
o The dose-adjustment screw can be found buried in the grinds. It would make sense to be able to make this adjustment from outside the hopper.
? We are pretty happy with the choice of the La Spaziale Vivaldi II and the Mazzer Super Jolly with doser.

great machine

my daughter and I bought this so we could start making espresso and cappuccino. we are very pleased. it is easy to use. you can customize just about everything or do it almost in full auto mode. we are very happy. we really have no complaints and the folks at Clive were super helpful. we did a lot of research and even though this is on the upper end of the price range for this type of machine, it seems well worth it. you get what you pay for and I am sure we will enjoy this a long time. Professional espresso machine at home..

I have been using the Vivaldi every day for the past 7 months now...and the consistency and quality were superb from the beginning.

You have to love the Italian 'Olivetti typewriter' curvy design...the addition of the wood panels only add to the beauty. I highly recommend them in place of the factory panels. But the most important features are technical. After doing all the imaginable research, the conclusion was simple... this is a commercial machine (La Spaziale uses the same technology and materials in all of their lines)in a single group package.

The results could not be better...consistency of both temperature and volume...and taste! Pair it with a good grinder (probably the most important decision alongside the machine) ,experiment with different beans and tweak your barista skills.

Great investment!

soooo happy

I have enjoyed this machine for 3 months now, and I do not have one negative thing to write about the Vivaldi. This is my first true espresso machine, and every single cup, even my first, has been perfectly delicious. I feel sorry for my local coffee shops that I infrequently visit now.

On a practical note, the Vivaldi is like a Mac: intuitive, elegant (with the wood panels) and solidly built. Not only is it simple to use, it is also easy to clean and maintain.

I must also give props to Clive's customer service. Chris talked me through many kinds of machines, giving me pros and cons, and answering multitudes of questions. He strongly suggested what would be best for my usage, and he was absolutely right on. The Vivaldi is well worth the money.

Thank you Clive Coffee! Every morning I smile with a cup snuggled in my hand!

Professional Home Espresso Machine

The optional walnut wood side panels I ordered look amazing in our kitchen. I would highly recommend the extra cost.

This espresso machine is fast and powerful, especially the steam wand. My last machine did not have a double boiler, a rotary pump, or programable temperature control. After experiencing these features, I could never go back.

I set the double shot timer to exactly 29 seconds and the temperature to 94C. I then change my grind until I get roughly 2 onces. A perfect shot every time.

A mini in name, not in performance.

I'm typically a black coffee or straight espresso gal, but when I get a craving for a cappuccino, the Mini Vivaldi II is my machine. All the machines in our showroom can produce a great shot of espresso, but the steaming power of the Mini is on par with every commercial machine I've used.

Although it doesn't have a PID, you can easily adjust the group boiler temperature, which is great for really dialing in single origin espresso.

There are only a few very minor things I don't love about this machine. The distance from the bottom of the portafilter spouts to the drip tray grate is too small to fit anything but a shot glass or demitasse. I wish the steam lever would lock into a position between off and full bore. It's also not as pretty as the E-61 machines, but the look has grown on me and I don't think it would clash with most kitchens.
