Description

The LUCCA M58 set the standard, and now the new LUCCA M58 Sunto perfects it. Still built exclusively for Clive by Quick Mill in Milan, the M58 Sunto carries everything that made the original M58 a favorite: dual-boiler precision, whisper-quiet rotary pump, E61 reliability, and that unmistakable mirrored stainless steel silhouette. We upgraded it where it counts: a dedicated group-head heating element means faster heat-up (40% faster than standard E61 machines) times and rock-solid thermal stability. The new OLED PID display brings sharper control and programmable pre-infusion. The handcrafted walnut touchpoints come standard, even on the sleek matte-black-and-walnut variant for those who want something darker. This is the machine our team reaches for. Built in Milan. Built for you.

Need to Know

The LUCCA M58 Sunto is the end-game dual-boiler, rotary-pump espresso machine, built exclusively for Clive by Quick Mill in Milan. Super compact for an E61 dual-boiler in its class, it combines E61 brewing precision with modern dual-boiler performance, wrapped in minimalist stainless steel or a sleek matte-black finish, both outfitted with walnut trim. With a built-in OLED PID controller, shot timer, programmable pre-infusion, a group head heating element that gets you up to brew temperature 40% faster than standard E61 machines, and the choice to plumb directly or run on its internal reservoir. The M58 Sunto is designed for the home barista who wants commercial capability without the complexity. This is the machine Clive's team reaches for when they want to dial in a new single origin or pull back-to-back drinks for a crowd.

Key Features

  • Dual Boiler System: Separate 0.75L brew boiler and 1.5L steam boiler with independent PID control. Brew and steam simultaneously without temperature compromise.
  • Compact Profile: We made a mighty effort to make the M58 Sunto one of the most powerful and compact dual-boilers in its class. Smaller than the original M58 and many traditional E61 dual-boilers, without sacrificing an ounce of performance or counter space.
  • E61 Group Head: Thermosyphon preheating and commercial 58mm portafilter compatibility. The standard for espresso precision since 1961.
  • Instant Stability: A dedicated heating element in the group head brings the M58 Sunto to full brewing temperature in just 12 minutes, which is 40% faster than standard E61 machines.
  • Rotary Pump: Whisper-quiet operation and stable, adjustable pressure. Unlike vibratory pumps, the rotary pump won't wake the household during your 6 a.m. shot.
  • OLED PID with Shot Timer: Navy-blue PID display with 0.1°C accuracy. Integrated shot timer tracks extraction in real time.
  • Switchable Water Supply: Plumb directly to your water line or run on the built-in 3L reservoir. A braided water line is required for plumbed operation and is sold separately Quick Mill braided water line.
  • Joystick Steam & Water Controls: Smooth, single-motion control for steam and hot water. More precise than traditional knobs, easier to clean.
  • Walnut Bottomless Portafilter Included: Ships with a Clive-made walnut bottomless 58mm portafilter so you can watch channeling, dial in faster, and pull more beautiful shots.
  • 1400W Heating Elements: From cold start to pulling a shot and steaming 12oz of milk, the M58 recovers to target temperature in under 60 seconds.

Ideal For

The M58 Sunto is built for the intermediate to advanced home barista who wants commercial-grade performance in a home-friendly package. If you've outgrown a single-boiler or heat-exchanger and you're ready for simultaneous brew-and-steam capability, the M58 Sunto is the logical next step. It's also ideal for households that entertain. If you value both aesthetics and espresso quality, and you want a machine that will still be pulling excellent shots a decade from now, the M58 Sunto delivers. It's simple enough for daily use, sophisticated enough for experimentation, and built to last.

A close friend and avid home barista has used the pre-Sunto M58 for years and told me to trust this machine and trust Clive. He was right. I was fortunate to get the new Sunto version and my friend has tried my new machine and says the improvement are amazing.

For my first machine, I am spoiled with the M58 Sunto. I also bought the Mazzer Philos grinder with Clive guidance. I have the perfect set-up. Can't say enough about the Clive staff. They will get on the phone with you and help you with any question or issue.

Prior to this unit I

Prior to this unit I had another Quickmill heat exchanger for 14 years. The unit was so well made that I decided to get another step up unit also by QuickMill Mill. Not only is this one built like a tank, but it has so much user friendly, forward thinking, convenient features built in. It has independent boilers that come up to full power very quickly even if the unit has been on for a while, and stepped down into power saving mode (which is a fantastic feature and can be adjusted or shut off). The unit exceeded my already high expectations after carefully reading and watching everything Clive had on their site. You could steam a full pitcher of milk, pull a shot simultaneously, and the unit is back to full power in around 90 seconds. It's such a pleasure to use with the joystick switches opening the steam to full power or hot water tap to full with just a nudge. The pump is so quiet, espresso sounds like rain dropping into the shot glass. Paired with a beautiful grinder, it pulls absolutely stunning espresso. Frothing milk to the consistency of silky liquid latex is quick & easy. And to top all of this off it has a polished finish like a mirror with beautiful accents. This machine is a pleasure and you could see how much thought went into its fine details. Very highly recommended.

This is wonderful to hear! So glad you are thrilled with your setup :)

The M58 is an absolutely

The M58 is an absolutely beautiful machine! It has all of the features that I would want as part of an end-game setup. I purchased this as an upgrade to an ECM Mechanika V Slim, which I had also purchased from Clive many years ago. It has many quality of life features that my previous machine lacked. Notably, this machine can be plumbed in. I no longer have to pull out the machine to fill the reservoir located in the back several times a week. The dual-boiler and PID are also significant upgrades, as is the quieter rotary pump. Though it does have a much larger footprint, it still fits snugly on my countertop, underneath my cabinets, with room to utilize the cup warmer on top.

I purchased the black model that comes with wooden accents. This machine also comes with a bottomless portafilter, which is not typical for a new machine and is usually a separate purchase. Although this didn't make or break my decision to buy it, I thought it was a great inclusion.

I had once dreamed of owning a La Marzocco Linea Mini, I no longer feel the envy, as this machine truly meets my expectations and needs. I truly believe that this is the absolute best machine you can buy for the price.

Good until it wasn’t…

It’s a great machine when it’s working but I’ve had to have it repaired twice because the pump motor seized up. I use it daily and clean it frequently. Now the LCD display has gone out and Clive Coffee refused to do anything to address it. I have an LCD alarm clock from the 80’s that still works fine. This display should not have failed after only a couple years. Seems like they chose parts of poor quality. It could have failed because of the heat behind it but they should have installed adequate heat shielding. My only option is to buy a replacement LCD from them, which is pretty expensive for what it is, and then have someone locally install it, also expensive, because the whole machine has to be taken apart to do it. To make it worse, the replacement LCD screen will only support 15amp power which means the machine will take much longer to heat up. I’ll probably just have it fixed and sell it if I can. Plenty of other good machines out there whose manufacturers will stand behind their products.

probably the best double-boiler for a first timer!

Bought the M58 with a Mignon Grinder in 2020 and it has changed my life :-) - the M58 is very easy to use and just really consistent. Great espresso, heats up pretty quickly, and easy to clean and maintain. Overall it's probably one of the best units for someone who is ready to invest in a double-boiler for the first time! Also - huge shout out to Clive Coffee service! i've had the machine in for a tune up just recently (after about 4 years) and they did an incredible job getting the m58 ready for the next 4 years!

Be prepared for breakdowns and ongoing maintenance

Within 14 months of buying the M58, it had already broken down and needed service. Since we didn't have the original packaging materials and were not close to Clive, we drove it to a (somewhat) local shop for service. $275 and 8 weeks later, the machine is now working again beautifully. We didn't expect that, nor did we expect the ongoing maintenance associated with this high-end machine. While it looks great in our kitchen and makes a nice shot of espresso, we would not purchase again.

The machine brew lever would

The machine brew lever would randomly fall starting about 3 months after I got the machine and then stopped doing so about 5 months later without any work. Much much harder to avoid shots spraying everywhere when they pull than the ECM classika I had previously. The machine is fine, but for the price I'd explore other options.

I'm so happy I chose

I'm so happy I chose this particular Espresso machine. It has all of the expensive features that you need to have full control of your pull at a extremely fair price compared to other machines with the same features from other manufacturers. I firmly believe that Clive Coffee has put together a high quality machine with Lucca that can't be beat at any price, unless you want a higher level of an "automatic" machine.

4 Year Anniversary Update

Our M58 has remained rock solid now for 4 years. Set up on a timer, ran through a Mavea C50 filter, this machine has run non stop making 4-5 doubles a day. We make lattes every morning, then make a few for our clients at our Marriage and Family Therapy Practice. Can’t say enough good stuff about this machine. Thank you Clive Coffee!

Great machine until it stops working

This machine makes great espresso and is as beautiful as a piece of art, unfortunately mine stopped working in 7 months. I spoke with the repair department and ran the troubleshooting steps they recommended (which required some level of disassembling of the machine) and when those didn’t work I brought it in for repair. I now lack confidence in this beautiful machine as I wait to hear what the problem is.

9 yrs daily use no problems

I bought my Lucca M58 9 years ago and have used it almost twice daily except for when we are away on vacation. No problems whatsoever after all these years. I can't recommend it enough. The grinder is also 9 years old and still grinding! The machine is built like a tank.

I bought this machine in January, 2016. My husband and I use it every day. It works perfectly now the way it did the day I unboxed it. I love this machine. :-)

Love It

Absolutely loving my Lucca. The unit feels and looks great. Upgraded from a Gaggia Classic Pro and the difference is blindingly different. Double boiler, quietness of the rotary pump, direct plumbing. This thing is an absolute work horse and has brought the fun back to making coffee at home. Highly recommended for anyone ready to enter the prosumer grade.

Still happy but…

I was head over heels about getting this machine. Now it’s my second unit. The first unit overheated the coffee brewer. I bought this machine in December 2021, That January I replaced it for another and use it every single day. It makes a wonderful cup of espresso. I have noticed about 4months ago, it easily runs out of steam, and my coffee is never hot enough even though the temperatures is up to snuff. I noticed that the temperature rises to 220° when it first starts up I find that rather strange it seems too hot by at least 15°, the machine is not consistent. It’s beautiful it’s built like a tank but nothing worth consistently. When I get some money together I’m going to sell this machine off as it still works the way it supposed to apparently, not happy with it.

Pretty good but some issues

Overall the Lucca M58 has been "ok". It is my second espresso machine, and I wanted to get a solid machine that will last me a long time.

Unfortunately, I had an issue after only 3 months. My machine suddenly started steaming out of the drip basket as if it had overheated. After a bunch of research I discovered that the vacuum seal had broken and this was resulting in the boiler going above 2.5 bar of pressure (not good).

Clive warranty did not include having a local mechanic fix it, nor did it include expedited shipping for the replacement part. They indicated that warranty only covers the part itself with ground ~5 day shipping, or shipping the machine back to their office in Portland (which makes no sense to me, these things are heavy and not easy to ship). I ended up taking the machine apart and fixing it myself - I guess the vacuum seal breaking is common because they have a support video showing how to replace it? Thankfully the replacement part that they supplied did fix the issue so far after a few uses.

I'm hoping that the machine lasts longer than 3 months until the next breakage. Only other complaints are that the steam wand knob is squeaky and feels cheap, the water reservoir is annoying to take in and out with cabinet overhead, and I wish there was some sort of indicator that the reservoir needs replacement or that the drip basket needs dumping.

Outstanding Espresso Machine

Had the Lucca M58 since March 2018 and my wife and I love it! Very well constructed, makes excellent espresso and great steam wand. Also the Clive Coffee team is outstanding and helpful. Paired with a Fiorenzato F4E grinder which has done well 6500 shots later.

Fantastic machine

I purchased the Lucca M58 over a month ago. The machine was shipped promptly and the Clive team was very responsive to all emails. I was a beginner, having only used a super-automatic Breville Oracle that broke down after 3 years. I went through all the excellent videos available on the Clive web site on how to pull shots and steam milk. Within a couple of hours I started pulling great shots using the Eureka Mignon Specialita grinder and have now reasonably mastered most aspects of the M58 machine. Incredibly well made and an absolute pleasure to use. Family and guests now put my espresso drinks above those of the local coffee shops. Extremely satisfied and expect to enjoy it for decades to come :)

December 2017 and Still Perfect

Bought my LUCCA M58 the end of December 2017 and still in love with her! She has operated flawlessly and produces incredible shots.

Reading all the 5-Star reviews should tell uou something about this great machine and also something about the great team at Clive Coffee. The decision to buy should stop here.

The beauty of the machine equals the performance. 5 years later and I see no reason to upgrade.

Thank you Clive for helping me make my decision so long ago. I cannot recommend you any higher as a company!

Another level.

I've had the machine for 20 hours. I know you'll think it's too soon for a review but it actually isn't. The sheer quality of all the components alone will tell you, this is no toy. I'm a total coffee nut by nature since I was seven years old. I grew up in a large Sicilian family who loved food, wine, and coffee. I've had the best coffee's from all over the world personally and must confess The last three shots I pulled were the best I ever tasted in this category: espresso/latte. The Lucca M58 is impressive to look at in it's masculinity and commanding presence. My last trip to Rome Italy left me remembering the coffee I had there, that was three years ago. So, I decided I needed a good espresso machine, and I found Clive on Google. I also found Whole Latte Love. I went easily with Clive for their selection, knowledge, and the wonderful Chat! Won me over hands down and sent me the best machine to start my Journey with, the EMC Casa V. I discovered that with a lot of patients, I learned how to pull a darn decent shot comparable to some of the better coffee I had in Europe. years later, enter the Lucca M58. Talk about arriving! After familiarizing myself with the Lucca an hour later it arrived I pulled my first shot. It wasn't the best as i was not ready for the power difference! Seven shots later and quite wired..lol, I arrived at what I believe is the best latter and espresso i ever had! No smoke here.. just steam.. I'm absolutely serious. It arrived in 20 degree weather so it was cold! It took 40 minutes to warm up so everything was ready including the group head which is the last to heat up. Not too shabby! This morning it took 20 minutes to heat up from room temp 71 degrees. I made my husband some tea with the great water nozzle and he was impressed. Two stones with one bullet! I've has three lattes this morning and the last one was the best! I have to mention, the joysticks are totally the way to go so precise, quick and the included bottemless portafilter and double spouted one plus the very decent wooden handled tamper. Buy this Machine! I'm so happy I did.

Wow, what a review! Thank you! Thrilled that you are so happy and drinking wonderful espresso every day :)
