Need to Know

The Rancilio Silvia Pro X is the machine the home espresso community has been asking for since the late 90s: the legendary Silvia platform, rebuilt with dual boiler architecture and commercial-grade control. This is a semi-automatic espresso machine with a saturated group head, built-in PID, shot timer, and programmable pre-infusion. It runs on an internal reservoir, pulls shots and steams milk simultaneously, and delivers the kind of reliability Rancilio has been known for since 1927. It's serious equipment for the intermediate home barista ready to dial in café-quality espresso without the footprint or complexity of a commercial machine.

Key Features

  • Dual boiler system: A dedicated boiler for steaming and brewing. No more waiting between shots and milk.
  • Built-in PID temperature control: Set your brew temp to the degree. The integrated shot timer delivers consistent shot after shot.
  • Pre-infusion:  Dial in light roasts, manage channeling, and extract more evenly.
  • Saturated group head: Thermally stable, commercial-style brewing.
  • Vibratory pump
  • Internal reservoir: No plumbing required. Fill, brew, refill as needed.

Ideal For

The Silvia Pro X is built for the intermediate home barista who's ready to move beyond single-boiler limitations. You've pulled enough shots to know what you want: thermal stability, workflow efficiency, and the ability to steam milk without waiting for the machine to recover. You value reliability and serviceability over flashy features. You want a machine with a proven lineage and a reputation that's been earned over decades, not marketing cycles. If you're making multiple milk drinks back-to-back or sharing the machine with a household of espresso drinkers, the dual boiler system is the upgrade that changes everything.

This machine is everything I expected from professional and user reviews. My only note is that the steam boiler is slow to pre-heat.

Bought this to replace a

Bought this to replace a cheap one I bought from Amazon. The learning curve wasn’t too bad. Really well built. I’m new to trying to be a home barista but loving the process. This machine is great. The drip tray could be a little awkward but I just clean it more regularly so it’s a non issue.

Noting but positive !

I own this machine for 4 years or so. . . . . . . . . . With proper maintenance and a lot of milk and coffee that i wasted :-) I have my machine work great as i said for about 4 years. . . I also own Rancilio Stillo grinder not bad but i believe single dose would be better. . . . . . . . . .

I’ve been using my new

I’ve been using my new Silvia Pro X for about three weeks now. From day one, this machine has been surprisingly easy to use and consistently delivering great results.

About 15 years ago I had an old school Silvia, but I hardly used it because it didn’t heat up well, didn’t maintain consistent temperatures, and delivered wet steam. I eventually gave it away.

After years of making only drip coffee with a Moccamaster and then a Fellow Aiden, I got back into espresso with a Breville Bambino Plus and then a Breville Barista Pro. Steaming milk on these was always a challenge and neither machine was fun to use. So I decided to go with a La Marzocco Linea Micra, but kept hesitating because of the price. Finally, after the price went up $500 I decided to stick closer to the $2K zone. After a lot of research I settled on a white Silvia Pro X.

This machine is simply excellent and excellently simple. This is well built from quality components. The buttons have a commercial-level quality to them. From the first shot and steaming, this has produced great results. I almost exclusively make mochas and lattes, with occasional shots for affogatos. I use the machine twice a day. Each time I use it I’m impressed by the no-nonsense solidity in the feel of the buttons and the steam wand. The heavy duty steel body is well painted and assembled. The near absence of electronics helps keep the focus on the beans, grind, and the process essentials.

For a while I thought maybe I’d wait for Breville to finally ship their new Oracle dual boiler. Ultimately, I decided I cared more about excellent results from a simple process that delivered the two or three beverages I actually care about. I’m sure people want on-screen guidance to crank out 27 different beverages. But I wanted a solid, highly focused machine that is reliable, easy to use, and repairable. The Silvia Pro X is that machine.

Espresso Machine very good but

Espresso Machine very good but finicky with boiler pressure hence flow is perfect trickle one day and no trickle next for same bean & grind setting. Clive Coffee poor customer service: missing screw & dented front panel never replaced tho promised 9 months ago.

I am in love with

I am in love with this machine. For the price point, it has far exceeded my expectations and makes such an amazing espresso. Once I dialed in my preferred settings on the machine (along with my dosage and grind) I was able to consistently make some of the best espresso that I have ever tasted. The machine is easy to clean, I even found that the smaller sized drip tray is not a problem at all, if is a fine size for me and my usage. I love being able to pull shots and steam milk at the same time, a double broiler is definitely the way to go.
Above loving this machine, I also want to comment on how amazing the customer service is at Clive Coffee. I had a few questions at the beginning and I received such quick, professional and patient replies. I am so grateful to be able to reach out to a company where their employees are not only knowledgeable, but also personable. My experience all around has been incredible. I would highly recommend both this machine along with ordering it from Clive's.

On my old Rancilio Silvia

On my old Rancilio Silvia Pro, the water tank lid did not sit flush due to the water lines near the lid. On the new Rancilio, they fixed this. They also slightly increased the capacity of this wondrous machine. Compared to my 3 year old Rancilio. It also seems like it heats up alot faster... I did upgrade many components when it arrived. Normcore 58.5mm Coffee Tamper V4, Rancilio Silvia 69000313 Water Softener, Rancilio 58mm Backflush Disk, and Nanotech Reinforced Screen Cafelat Gasket with Flat Screw. With the upgrades, it seems to be on par with my old Rancilio Pro. Lastly, for people who are concerned with operating noise, the Pro X seems to be quieter with dual water pumps. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase.

Worth the upgrade. I went

Worth the upgrade. I went from a pro to a pro X and to me the upgrades are worth it. I use the pre-fill and the flush features. It seems to have an updraded pump as well as the standard large brass boilers. Better pressure, as can be witnessed on the new gauge, than many competitors. I essentially only make lattes so this is a great machine. I can’t think of anything else that I would need in a coffee machine. Clive service was excellent. I did get a couple of wrong answers from inexperienced staff when visiting the store. I felt staff should be more knowlegeable than the customer but, I guess, you can’t be expected to know everything. Overall very happy with my purchase.

I like my Silvia Pro

I like my Silvia Pro a lot, but can't give it a "Great" because I'm really not that expert with it yet. I'm getting there, but have a long way to go. My use is for a single mocha every morning and the occasional double shot in the afternoon. I haven't tried running several sequential shots through it yet, but it seems to recover fairly quickly. The manual is a weak point and it took me a while to figure out that you really do have to start it with the "steam" switch engaged to get both boilers going. The slow start-up has been criticized as being a weak point, but I start it up before I shower and by the time I'm done it's quite ready. I haven't tried the timer yet as my schedule is too erratic. I will be replacing the 8 gram filter basket with a larger one, but that's a totally subjective requirement, not a shortcoming on the machine. I like the simplicity of the case design...it doesn't look like something that escaped from a chemistry lab and it's easy to clean (I'm lazy that way...but it does get cleaned with every use). The drip tray has been criticized as being too small, but in my application it's fine and, as noted, it gets cleaned with every use. I wanted a gauge, which this has, but it doesn't seem to monitor application pressure at the brew head...not sure just what it's measuring. Still figuring that out. All-in-all, I'm enjoying the machine.

When it worked it worked

When it worked it worked great. Unfortunately, I had 2 separate units with major problems that developed within a few weeks of use. Tried to troubleshoot and there was not an easy fix for either problem. Maybe bad luck but it’s a relatively new machine and had 2 units fail. Really wanted it to work out as the price point and esthetics were what I wanted. Clive service was great in terms of helpfulness and resolving the issue.

Makes great espresso. It’s nice

Makes great espresso. It’s nice not having to turn on the steam every time. Easy to clean. Powerful steam. The head on the steam wand could be better. It would be nice if the drip tray was a single piece. It’s my second Sylvia. The first was the original. It was a very durable machine. If you like espresso better than espresso drinks, like me, this machine is a great choice.

I did want to add

I did want to add two things to my previous review. The screen is a very tight fit to the portafilter, which surprised me at the beginning. Now I keep a small knife handy to help me remove the screen after it’s done a shot Also, do realize the machine is quite deep. I measured the height to make sure it would clear the cabinet on my coffee counter, but never checked the depth. This machine is much deeper than the Rancillo Silvia. Thankfully, I found a good spot for it, right by my sink.

Love my purchase

After using the Rancilio Silvia for over fifteen years, I decided to upgrade to the Pro X. I had already read that it was noisy (for about 15 seconds) and that the steamer takes about 20 mins to warm up. Which is not a problem to me. I get up, start the machine, clean my teeth, feed the cats, weigh the coffee beans to grind and voila, my machine is ready before I am! I love its feature to customize things, like changing the soft infusion setting, and backflushing the machine to clean it. It is so easy to do! I did need help at the beginning, and it was nice to know that Clive Coffee was there to help me out, both via email, and phone call. And, their classes are wonderful! After all these years of making my lattes at home, I am making an even better cup of coffee.

The machine is teriffic but

The machine is teriffic but we had a pretty good idea of that before we bought it as friends have used a silvia for years and had updated to the Pro when it was released. What impressed us most of all was your assistance to us when the first machine arrived here damaged. Having a replacement shipped overnight was most unexpected; Clive Coffee provided us with among the best customer service experiences I've received from any business.
Thank you,
Jim Wilson

This is an awesome machine:

This is an awesome machine: it pulls great shots (partly thanks to the configurable pre-infusion), and the steam boiler is big enough and fast enough to produce 140º microfoam within 10-15 seconds of the completion of the double shot pour. My only complaint (and this is minor) is the EU required automatic shift into standby mode. Settings allow disabling the automatic shut off, but not the move into standby, so it can take several minutes for the machine to reach temperature if not used consistently within what seems to be a 40-45 minute window). I traded in a Profitek for the Rancilio Pro: some one wondered why I was making a lateral move. In addition to space issues (no room for a larger machine), the answer is just that unlike the Profitek (a very good machine) the Rancilio does for the home barista everything that one could desire.
