Need to Know

The LUCCA Solo is an espresso purist's dream: a single-boiler E61 machine with flow control, PID temperature stability, and a built-in shot timer, all in a compact, espresso-only design. Built exclusively for Clive by Quick Mill in Italy, the Solo strips away everything except what matters for pulling exceptional shots. No steam wand. No distractions. At $1,495, the Solo delivers commercial-grade espresso performance without the bulk or the four-figure premium of dual-boiler systems. The flow-control paddle gives you real-time control over your extractions, letting you coax different flavors from the same beans. The PID keeps the temperature rock-solid.

Key Features

  • E61 Group Head: Commercial thermal stability and pre-infusion in a home-sized footprint
  • Flow Control Paddle: Adjust pressure on the fly to profile each shot
  • PID Temperature Control: Set your extraction temp to the degree
  • Built-In Shot Timer
  • 2L Water Reservoir
  • Vibratory Pump
  • Walnut Touchpoints: Stainless and black models include warm wood accents, including a bottomless portafilter

Ideal For

The Solo is built for the home barista who drinks espresso exclusively and wants control without complexity. If you're someone who loves the ritual of dialing in a shot, experimenting with pressure profiles, and tasting the difference a half-degree makes, this is your machine. It's also ideal for small kitchens and espresso bars where counter space is at a premium. The Solo's compact footprint and reservoir-only design make it one of the most space-efficient E61 machines available.

Not ideal for households that need milk drinks. The Solo has no steam wand and no plans to add one. If you want a latte, buy a different machine. But if you want an espresso that rivals what you'd get at a specialty café, the Solo delivers at a price point that makes zero compromises on shot quality.

Flow control poor

I like the Solo overall. I don’t feel the flow control works as it should. First, the flow rate of water should be calibrated with the position of the lever. The staff and documentation indicate the flow controller operates within a range of 180 degrees; however, I found that the flow rate increases with additional counter-clockwise revolutions. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to decrease the flow rate by simply moving in the clockwise direction, especially during brewing. I have set the controller to no flow and then rotate 1 complete counter-clockwise turn to open the flow. Nonetheless, rotating clockwise 1 revolution or in between to decrease the flow does not work during brewing. I like to have the option to decrease the flow on dark roasts at the end of a brew cycle.
I wonder if other flow control devices are similarly flawed. I’d like to hear from others on their experiences with the flow control.
Other than this issue, the machine is well made.

Love the machine!

I wanted an espresso only E61 machine. and the Lucca Solo machine fit the bill. I've tried the machine using the flow control and without using it and I've noticed the channeling is greatly reduced when doing a 6-7 second pre-infusion with a triple shot basket and bottomless portafilter. This is my first real espresso machine and past machines were semiautomatic. The espresso from this machine is so much better! The build quality is excellent. During shipping, the top cup warmer tray was slightly bent inward probably from a heavy object on the shipping box during transit. I had no problem straightening the cover (about 1/16") and it looks 100%.

I received this machine as

I received this machine as a birthday gift from my wife. It replaced my 10+ year old Rancilio Silvia. I installed a PID a few years ago, and thought I was pulling great shots. Wow! This machine (the Lucca Solo with flow control) improved the taste of the shots significantly. So happy with my gift!
